According to Mike's grade distribution table, only 105 players completed Round 4 (down from 131 at sign-up, 121 in Round 1, 116 in Round 2, and 111 in Round 3).  Here are the key measures of central tendency for this round (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

The Board scored 132 bulls-eyes in Round 4 (25% of all grades submitted, compared to 26% in Round 1, 27% in Round 2, and 19% in Round 3).  Here are a few other notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #16 (Wow #1):  The toughest book for the Board as a whole, with only 12% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 37% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was slightly more than two grade increments more critical than CGC (3.9 vs 5.0).  :facepalm:
  • Book #17 (Action Comics #253):  A relatively easy book for the Board as a whole, with 30% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 60% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was one grade increment more critical than CGC (3.5 vs 4.0).
  • Book #18 (Avengers #48):  The second-toughest book for the Board as a whole, with only 16% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 45% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was nearly two grade increments more critical than CGC (7.6 vs 8.5).  :ohnoez:
  • Book #19 (X-Men #107):  One of the two easiest books for the Board as a whole, with 32% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 73% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one-half grade increment more critical than CGC (8.8 vs 9.0).  "Easy" is now pretty much automatic for the VF/NM and better challenges.  meh
  • Book #20 (Star Wars #68):  The other of the two easiest books for the Board as a whole, with 34% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 79% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one-half grade increment more critical than CGC (9.3 vs 9.4).  Once again, "easy" is now pretty much automatic for the VF/NM and better challenges.  meh

In this round, the Board was always more critical in it's average grade assessment than CGC.  hm  In any event, kudos to Mike for yet another well-run contest.  (thumbsu  (thumbsu  Congratulations to the victors ( (worship) ) and condolences to the vanquished ( :foryou: ).

Agreed, that makes more sense to me.  (shrug) 

Lets see how others feel.  Perhaps I have made an error in thinking?  In the meantime, I have hid the tiebreaker round.

+1 That's generally how ties shake out. If two people tie for first in the Olympics, there are two gold medals, no silver, and a bronze. By extension, a 3-way tie would mean no other medals (I have no recollection of a 3-way time in the Olympics, but I assume it would work this way). Golf works this way too*

*except for the overall win, which is a playoff. Tied below share get an equal share of the price money for the combined for the number of places tied.
