Mr Ayers..good penciller and a great inker
Don Heck was a serviceable bullpen artist with a bland style

Neither worthy of a place on Rushmore

I guess I should phrase it more of where they signers of the Declaration of Independence and less Mount Rushmore.

Not even close when you compare them to next-level creators like Ditko and Kirby.

Supporting characters in the story of Marvel’s Silver Age ascendency.

Being British I might be missing the point.

They were both involved with Marvel throughout the transition between the ‘Marvel Monster’ period and the Silver Age super-hero renaissance, so it’s worth thinking about.

At least we didn’t get a bit too far down the hierarchy and bring up creators such as Reinman and Bernstein.

Kirby is on the mountain alone

Yup. In terms of creativity, considered by many to be the next-level paradigm.

This is a good analogy. Their names should be on the Marvel "Declaration of Independence" but maybe not written as large as Thomas Jefferson or Herby Hancock.

Joe Sinnott and Romita Sr should be in the same conversation. Maybe Romita gets a bigger signature because he assumed responsibility for Marvels biggest and most important character.

If I recall correctly, there are 56 signatures on the DOI, and at least half are pretty obscure.  Not all of the Founding Fathers were in Philadephia for the meeting.

Some were busy forming state governments, and a few were actually fighting.
