Math Teacher
I started reading comics seriously near the end of Steve Ditko's run. When I saw the cover of ASM #39, I thought, "What the hull happened?" Opening the cover and finding a new artist was the explanation. Look, I love Ditko's run, but John Romita will always be my Spider-Man artist of choice. RIP to one of the greatest artists of all time! Frisco Larson
A huge loss to everyone who ever met him and the comic and art world at large. I exchanged greetings with him in San Diego, very briefly, and he was SUCH a nice guy! His impact at Marvel and the entire comics collecting hobby is incalculable!!! Given the unenviable task of replacing Spider-Man's co-creator, he did so with style and grace! He will be missed by most, but his artwork will live on for all!!! RIP Sir. Popular Post SeniorSurfer
When I was a kid I might not have known the differences between one writer and another as art was always more noticeable. After I saw the ASM style change to those clean lines and adult-looking characters (no chance of mistaking Peter for a high school student), I always pictured him with that same, definitive look that would never age and thought it should be the standard from there on, no matter who was drawing ASM. A really sincere appreciation for the many, many years of enjoyment provided by your timeless work Mr. Romita. R.I.P. and condolences to the family. alexgross.com, Mmehdy, Larryw7 and 2 others

Comics4All
This is sad news, but to say he was a great artist is an understatement! He will be missed! CJ Design
theCapraAegagrus
JRSR is a guy I'd laud for consistency in quantity more than outright quality (not to say that's lacking, just not upper-echelon for me). CJ Design

Popular Post Sweet Lou 14
Definitely shedding a tear today, not gonna lie. One of the absolute greats. This is my sneaky-favorite Romita cover: I just absolutely love the detail of the left hand exerting no effort whatsoever as the right hand overpowers Spider-Man. So much characterization in a single image. g-man, Catwomancomics, CJ Design and 7 others

Popular Post miraclemet
John Sr was the most consistent comic book artist I ever saw. He was great in his early days and his line never wavered. His style was always HIS style. You knew his art as soon as you saw it whether he drew it in 1965 or 2015. His line was always simple, but perfect. Never more than he needed, and never less. That was his super power. I heard him beam about his son, it was my favorite thing to hear him talk about in pure "proud dad" mode. Robot Man
Wow, not suprised but very sad to lose another one of the greats. Could have taken or left Ditko but when Romita took over, Spider-Man really hit his stride. Who could forget this classic sequence? RIP sir, a life well lived! spideyfan68
Wow, @mysterio and I were talking on Saturday about JRSR how close he was to meeting him at a con in Chicago many years ago. Hands down my favorite Spidey artist who as others said was so consistently excellent. He and Neal Adams took characters they didn’t create and yet their versions became iconic in that when a lot people close their eyes its their version of the character they see. Raise a glass to a great one and a life well lived. You will be missed sir! CJ Design and mysterio

Galen130
Another of my favs gone from the world. A true comic legend. R.I.P. Unfortunately, I only have one slabbed comic with works by JR, Sr. It is signed by Junior, not Senior. I'm sure I have some raw stuff, but I decided not to go through my big collection to find something. This one is part of my private collection. A JR, Sr. signed slab would've been awesome, but this one is still precious. CJ Design
