Extreme Bondage Torture Nude GGA cover. Amazing this was in the rack at Woolworths.  Uncredited cover art but 99% sure it's by Bill Randall, look at that girls eyes and at "Werewolf of Paris". Top of the Bill, literally, for Golden Age Avons.

 

Very Fine minus   Incredibly glossy unread copy. No cover creases, near perfect lamination. Very minor edge/corner wear. Light surface wear to the lamination. Tiny owner name in pen on first page. Pages lightly toning. A killer copy of a classic bondage cover.

That's about it for this Avon stack - I'm going to throw this quick bargain lot out there for anyone who wants 2 nice GGA covers that present well and get the Avon feel. Then I'll be back in a little bit with some art covers.

Georgie May by Maxwell Bodenheim Avon 158 - One of the first very large Good Girls by Avon, has a fair crease on the front cover but very presentable overall

Never Come Morning by Nelson Algren Avon 419 -Gorgeous headlights cover. The second numbering for this and the 5th print overall per inside census. It's nice because it has gloss lamination, unlike the earlier number. 950,000 copies sold at this time! That is insane and one of Avon's all time best sellers but they don't survive because they just got chucked. This one looks great but has a little chunk worn away at the bottom cover and inside pages.

I've got the Canadian version; it seems to have either lost the laminate completely or never had it.  I can't tell which.

Another insane Steranko Shadow cover in near perfect unread condition.

Sweet headlights GGA credited to Ann Cantor, but as I revealed in my article, she was an art agent subbing work out to artists like Johnson. It is gorgeous work, whoever painted it and is indicative of how Avon moved on from the stiff art of the earlier 1940's during this time.

Fine/Fine Plus  Solid spine with slight slant. Great colors, smooth covers with minimal wear and creasing. A very collectible copy.

No publisher theme tonight. I have a stack of varied but incredibly cool pieces to set out, starting with this, which I managed to upgrade again:

The Whipping by Roy Flannagan               Bantam Books #817      $65  SOLD to mstrange

Probably Harry Schaare's most notorious and desirable cover.  GGA/Hooded figures cover art. Along with "Campus Town", they're the future Suspense #3's of paperbacks imho.

Fine Plus. Spine is solid with slight slant, light wear. Pages tight, light and supple. Covers are super bright and glossy. A tiny tear/dent at top which goes in a few pages. One of the best copies I've seen. A striking copy of a sick book.
