According to Mike's grade distribution table, 94 players completed Round 3 (down from 109 at sign-up, 101 in Round 1, and 98 in Round 2).  Here are the key measures of central tendency for this round (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

The Board scored 100 bulls-eyes in Round 3 (21% of all grades submitted, compared to 27% in Round 1 and 26% in Round 2).  Here are a few other notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #11 (Headline Comics #11):  The first of two average-difficulty books for the Board as a whole, with 22% at the same grade as CGC and 59% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board agreed with CGC (6.0 vs 6.0).  (worship)  (worship)
  • Book #12 (Out Of The Shadows #8):  The easiest book for the Board as a whole, with 28% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 69% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board essentially agreed with CGC (4.1 vs 4.0).  (thumbsu (thumbsu
  • Book #13 (Fight Comics #28):  One of the two most difficult books for the Board as a whole, with only 17% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 66% within one grade increment of CGC.  However, collectively, the Board was only about one-half grade increment more lenient than CGC (5.2 vs 5.0). meh
  • Book #14 (My Romantic Adventures #68):  The second of the two most difficult books for the Board as a whole, with only 17% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 61% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was nearly one grade increment more critical than CGC (6.1 vs 6.5).  hm
  • Book #15 (Nature Boy #3):  The second of two average-difficulty books for the Board as a whole, with 22% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC but only 53% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one and one-half grade increments more critical than CGC (6.2 vs 7.0).  :boo:

The tagging and reminders probably contribute to less people dropping off. Public shaming tends to do that. I wish Stats Guy had a stat for attrition rate and compared each contest to the preceding ones.

Anyway, from hovering around the top 10 to dropping out of the top 25 after a single disastrous round - actually one disastrous book. Pretty bummed by my showing this round.

C1 = Contest 1; C2  = Contest 2; etc.  Round-to-Round attrition/drop-out rates have been pretty consistent during the past five contests (C4 thru C8):  The greatest percentage of drop-outs generally occurs between sign-up and Round-1 (folks who sign up but are not fully committed).
