Missed Defects Major Auction House
0

10 posts in this topic

Recent purchase from major auction house that was mis-graded.  They admitted they missed defects.

Original description was corner piece missing from back cover, 1 inch spine split and tearing at staples.

They missed an additional 1.25 inch spine split at the top (1 inch spine split they described is at the bottom).

They missed the top staple detached from the front cover.

They missed the large bend/crease in the middle of the front cover running vertically through the Big Cheese and through the rhino’s horn.

The original grade was 5.0.  How much would these missed defects affect the “grade”?

Thought more appropriate for the Golden Age Section.

You could post it in the "please grade my book" section.  Nice copy.  Could benefit from a responsible press (not one of those waffle iron people).  Right now, it's looking like a 3.5 to me.

Agreed, somewhere in the 3s. Still looks really nice -- consider whether you might regret a return down the road, as the book otherwise looks super -- but yep, totally understand your disappointment.

I'll strongly second that. I won an Astonishing #4 years ago that had undisclosed color touch. I returned it without any problems, but really regret doing so since I don't come across copies too often and they've gone up quite a bit.

I agree with the majority here - it's a 3.0/3.5, but one that presents pretty nicely. If you didn't pay too much, I'd suggest keeping it until a better one comes along - especially if a partial refund is possible.

That's the issue since the grading error appears substantial. It depends on how much he overpaid and whether he feels that it's in his own best interest to return the book for a refund or request compensation/credit from the Auction House. hm
