I think it is under the radar also and I got it at a decent  price. I think it presents very well for the grade.

There's a CGC 4.0 on ebay for $600 right now, which feels about right. By contrast, a Chamber of Chills #19 in 4.0 is around $10K (!!). I think both covers are great but I'm surprised at the vast difference. $600 is not nothing to be sure but that's a hell of a cover for $600.

Three of my favorite books added in 2023.  Large Feature books are tough to find in grade and fellow boardie @cheetah sold me two pedigree examples that are gorgeous.  I was also fortunate to buy a small collection of early high-grade Four Color books this year - I'm including one of these books as well.  On to 2024!

I am quite envious of this book. Excellent purchase!

I just happened to be at the right place at the right time, in loboagain's short sales thread. I wasn't even at home - I was on a laptop at our other place up in Redmond, and was just checking in when he posted it. Another story is that I found a #2 in my Gold Key box a few months back that I had never inventoried - I didn't remember that I even had it.

Since 2023 was an odd-numbered year, I followed my pattern and worked on filling runs. My biggest run project right now is putting together ASM 100 through 130 in 9.8 with white pages. These were my three favorite books I picked up this year toward that end:

ASM 110 - First appearance of the Gibbon, or as Stan called him, "The Newest Marvel Super-Star!" (cough, cough).

 

ASM 113 - First appearance of Hammerhead, Gerry Conway's first original Spidey villain. Maybe not the best Spidey villain, but he's better than the Gibbon.

 

ASM 101 - First appearance of Morbius, Roy Thomas' first original Spidey villain. Maybe not the best Spidey villain, but he's better than Hammerhead.

 

I'm especially happy to have gotten that 101. I had been trying to pick up a good copy of this book for four years, but the announcement of the Morbius movie pushed prices into the stratosphere and the continuous delays kept them there. Luckily, the movie was true to its vampire theme and sucked, so I was finally able to pick one up.  The cherry on top? It's a double cover.

Extremely tough book to find in high grade.

I feel like these are dismembered parts of fallen foes of Steve Rogers, which explains the agony on the cover, as he recoils in disgust from his barbaric behaviour.

I was very fortunate this year and I am very appreciative of that.  I got the opportunity to purchase some wonderful books.  Here are my top 3: 

3.  All Select Comics 1.  
A classic golden age cover.  The Big 3 kicking rear-end and taking names.  Cap with a machine gun mowing down hate mongers is always a good thing.  Torch flaming through structures and setting those scumbags ablaze.  But my favorite part, Sub-Mariner tipping the bridge and sending Nazis to a watery grave.  Brilliant!

 

2.  Captain America Comics 5. 
Jack Kirby, Joe Simon and Stan Lee.  Sheesh.  What a book.  Wheel of Death, Nazi mongrels and a clown with a hatchet?!  What more do you need?!  Now, I’m not usually one for signed books.  For this one however, I quickly made an exception.  Signed Joe Simon and Stan Lee.  Perfect signatures, perfect placement.  The green was a wonderful choice for Mr. Simon’s signature.

 

1.  THE number one book by far, without question for me this year.  THE number one book I’ve ever owned and THE undisputed champion of my collection: 

Captain America Comics 46

So much has already been said about this issue.  The significance, the history.  This book represents so much more to me than just a comic.  It’s difficult to put into words but it really hits me in a different way than any other book has.  I’m incredibly thankful, grateful and lucky to have this issue be the pinnacle of my collection:

Literally one of the best comic book covers of all time! 

Frank Frazetta space covers are just on a different level for me in terms of amazement!
