EastEnd1
Thank you so much! That's an interesting collecting niche of DCs that you have. It's been so eye-opening for me to see the broad range of collector interests in the modern age... makes me feel good about the future of the hobby! If you want to take the time to put together a list of DC highlights from that period, I'll be happy to post those books as I come across them. As a quick update, I have received back another group of books from CGC but have been tied up a bit with work. I should be back to posting more books some time next week. See you soon! EastEnd1
Hi Folks! Finally have some time here to post another box. Last week I received another group of 20 books from CGC and am happy to report that all but one came back at 9.8. So of the 40 books I've received back so far (there's another group sitting there for grading as we speak), 37 have gotten 9.8s. Thanks again to Westfield for all that great packing! EastEnd1
The next Westfield box I opened is from October 2000. For you modern experts, there was one major book that hit the stands that month which I'll reveal last. In the meantime, see if you can guess it. EastEnd1
I posted the regular version of this comic earlier... here is the Dynamic Forces variant, a definite improvement! Again, only one word is appropriate to describe it... Pamela ADAMANTIUM and Coverdeath 1
EastEnd1
Here's a nice JLA squarebound book. DC referred to their books like this one, printed with thick glossy cardstock covers and shiny paper, as their "prestige format". Maybe they still call it that? EastEnd1
I've already spoken about the Batman: Dark Victory series. All of the covers in the series are amazing. This one stands out though... truly demented... Coverdeath
EastEnd1
Ok, here's the big reveal from October 2000... the very first "Ultimate" comic! Edited February 22 by EastEnd1 F For Fake, ADAMANTIUM, Coverdeath and 1 other
Popular Post EastEnd1
I remember pretty clearly how hot the Ultimate line was when it first came out. There was a genuine freshness to it. I only ordered one of these Ultimate Spider-Man's from Westfield but I did come into a collection a few years later (actually my wife found it on an antiquing trip) that had multiples of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 and all the variants. That collector had been more astute than me! Unfortunately, the ultimate line didn't have staying power... at the end of the day, I think its separation from the general Marvel universe is what did it in. The same thing kind of happened when Jim Shooter launched his "New Universe" line in the 1980s... except that one fizzled out in record time. The New Universe books still serve best as kindling for lighting your fireplace. This one needed a press to get to 9.8... the little bend at the top right edge came out nicely though... EastEnd1
Ok, it's time to take a peek into the box from December 1998. This one had some pretty interesting contents... Coverdeath
EastEnd1
First up were two copies of The Supernaturals #1. This "halloweenish" four issue mini-series featured some great Brian Pulido inspired Jim Balent covers, and each issue had one of five character mask cut-outs at the centerfold. The book sold for big bucks last year but the most recent sale was far more earthly. Anyone know any reason for the run-up and collapse?
EastEnd1
The box also had issues 2-4. I think the entire mini-series was released in the same month... probably for 1998's Halloween.
EastEnd1
Loving horror books, and the art on this series, I've sent them all in for grading. The #4 has come back... 1,2 and 3 are still at CGC... the authority and Coverdeath
EastEnd1
The box also had a Wizard release Deadpool #0. Special releases like this one were easily accessible though Westfield...
EastEnd1
Sometimes Westfield even commissioned their own variant cover comics. This is an example... Avengers Forever #1 with a great Kang the Conqueror cover that was far superior to the regular edition. There were two of these in the box... EastEnd1
I was a big fan of Garth Ennis's work... dark, violent and complex. I remember first noticing his work in Hellblazer and then followed him over to his own Vertigo creation, Preacher. What a ride that series was... kind of an over-the-top Hellblazer with a heavy dose of macabre adult themes... truly ground-breaking and controversial work at the time... maybe even still to this day! This sado-masochistic Glenn Fabry cover from the December 1998 issue is a classic example... Edited February 26 by EastEnd1

fastballspecial
Amazing so many graded so high. I thought for sure you were screwed on the Ultimate Spider-man 1 from the first pic.

I thought for sure you were screwed on the Ultimate Spider-man 1 from the first pic. I thought the same with fingerbends. Still sounds like a worthy thread. The start of say 1997 up to about 2014 is when I didn't think too much of comics nor see a lot of them. This thread could be very informative for me, not having read probably countless threads form the boards during that time. 😂 We have the Spawn thread as well, and this is a bit everyman that I'll enjoy too.
