PGM Chamber of Chills #23 (1954 pre-code Horror) - GRADE IS IN!

Looking for any thoughts on my Chamber of Chills #23.

Items of note:

  • Slight chipping along front and back cover edges
  • Overall foxing
  • Date stamp on title
  • Off-center cover

That's all the major stuff I can think of.

Any concerns with pressing/cleaning making the chipping worse? I almost feel without any major creasing or dings and the fact that it's pretty flat I should almost go with it as is?

Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks all!!

Considering the moderate foxing and slight interior cover tanning, I'd put this at a 4.5-5.0.  However, in the current cgc grading contest I've undergraded every book by 0.5-1.5, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Great book. I'd put this in about the 5.0 range because of the  foxing and chipping.Front cover presents a very nicely though which helps the value if you are planning to sell it.

As far as pressing you should talk to someone with a ton of experience with this type of book. From the pictures it looks like the chipping is of the type you should not press but again it's hard to tell just from pictures and you should consult with someone like @joeypost who has a good reputation on the boards here.  Good luck and thanks for showing this awesome comic. (worship)

I agree with you.  I see some pressable defects but are there enough to warrant a bump in grade, say from 5.0 to 5.5?  I'm not entirely certain of that.  But yes, definitely speak with a presser who has lots of experience with GA books.  Great book!
