I think I was grading hangry.  Or should have had my afternoon cuppa.  Or something

 

One bulls and harshed every other comic, one by three grades.  I'm still not buying that Betty's a 3.5...

Will be curious to see the group averages, and now I know I don't want to see the old man emoji again

Just curious:  Does anyone have a scan of another comic from 1957 (or earlier) with distributor ink?  I can't recall this type of marking being used this early.  Many thanks!

What's more, the boundaries of the orange ink are essentially linear/straight on both the front and back covers -- nothing like the 1960s era edge markings that sometimes bled onto either the front or back cover (or both):

That's a really interesting point. I don't believe I've *ever* seen a pre-'60s book with this kind of marking. (Even '60s seems "unusual", with '70s much more common.)

Ditto. I kept staring and couldn't find that flaw, so gave up and just went lower than what it looked to be to account for that.

The “breaks color” note on the finger bend/dent is what threw me. It *looked* like an easy 94/96 but every scale I’ve ever seen says color breaks knock it out of the NM+ category. So I ended up +3 instead of 🎯

I was destroyed this round...13pts with one Bullseye.  The Archie book killed me and so did the Conan book.  Fell off a cliff this round.

1 off on all the lower graded ones.  I guess I can't complain.

I got a bullseye and came close to a second, but I got slaughtered on the Avengers. 

This time I only spent a minute max with each book instead of pouring over the possibilities. I did better overall, but suffered greatly on a few. 

Good learning experience. I should do these more often. Much harder to grade from scans. 

I didn't handle the distributor ink properly. Foolish error.

They're giving out gift grades like candy down there these days.  That color breaking crease at the bottom right of the Conan 8 should disqualify it from 9.6.  Then again, I was the recipient of a very very generous gift grade on a hulk 181 recently so all I can do it roll with it.

I thought this was a stain on the Avengers 38.  Guess not. +3

Then I thought this was a small stain on the Conan.  Nope. +3

Then I got 4.5 vs. CGC 3.5 for the Archie.  Total +8.  But there's always next time!
