Batman #608 for over $500!

454 posts in this topic

To my knowledge, and from the ones that I own myself there are 5 covers:

Batman #608

1. 1st Printing

2. 2nd Printing

3. RRP Edition

4. New York Post Giveaway Edition (now this has "Special Edition" top right with "New York Post Exlcusive" at the bottom.

5. Special Edition - basically the RRP cover with a yellow border saying "After Watchmen, Whats next"? - Was released in 2009

So, this one is a sixth (printing?).

I'd be interested in the origin if anyone out there knows. I didn't bid on the one above, but I'd like to know where it came from. Possibly inserted into non-New York Post papers?

Is this the Double Feature (608 and 609)?

The Special Edition that people are asking about was inserted with the toys a couple of years ago. Look up Killer Croc Figure on ebay and you might see one...

I see it. It looks like all of the Batman figures from that 2003 line came with the same reprint of #608.

Thanks a lot.

>>They are going into BatPeople's private collections.

Exactly, and in a year or so, when Lee is on Spider-man and Loeb is working FF, no one will care about those 200 issues of ......

This limited print run BS always comes up when modern books sell for crazy prices. This book is a MANUFACTURED COLLETABLE and not collectable in and of itself, there are thousands of regular copies of the same book to be had.

These kind of books never hold their value long term, especially hype ridden ones like this one.

How many Jim Lee books have historically held their value after he has jumped ship?

lol not sure why this thread was bumped , but I love reading posts from 13 years ago. looks like the batman rrp is still going strong despite it being a manufactured collectible. :o

Looks like he blew that prediction.....

Sadly, it's going so strong, you can't even buy one.

Basically every comic book is a "manufactured collectible" and has been for at least 40 years now.

That's just a dumb characterisation.

The trick is, figuring out which one of these modern "manufactured collectibles" becomes collectible and stays collectible. The broad conclusions and predictions made by the people in this thread will be true 99.9999999% of the time. There's probably 15-20 books or so where it isn't true.

And none of the once in a blue moon sales of any of those 15-20 books will "bring down the hobby" or represent "a return to the nineties". Every era of comic books will have its "stars". Those books are this era's stars. The 608RRP is one of those stars.
