After hosting 11 of these contests, I have seen multiple people start in the bottom half, and end up in the top half over the duration.  Practice makes perfect.

My best round was the first. In that round, I wrote mmy preliminary low and high grades, then compared to other comics that had been graded in the same era. It took a lot of time to do that, longer than a real CGC would likely spend, so I decided not to do that on the next two rounds. Result: scores for each among the worst I've ever received. I guess I need those training wheels after all.
