I just found out that my friend of 40 years, fellow comic collector, owner of my LCS (https://thehallofcomics.com/ - https://www.facebook.com/TheHallofComics) and largely the reason I still collect, passed away on Monday. Johnny Mangaul was a great guy, ambasador of the hobby, and a true friend. Always welcoming to all who came into the store, knew everyones name that were regulars and always asked about your family. He was especially kind and engaging with the younger kids that came with their parents. Johnny was 58, way too young and I will miss him dearly. :(

Condolences to his family and friends. 58 is way to young!

Sounds like a gem - sad to hear a guy like that won't be around to keep inspiring people to be thoughtful and engaging. The world needs more dudes like that. Condolences.

That's a perfect description for John.   I wasn't a regular, stopped in maybe twice a year, but I always found something and he always went out of his way to say hello to me.  We've done store signings and charity events with him and he was a constant positive ball of energy.

This is heartbreaking to hear. I have been a frequent supporter of their shop for a few years now. And would like to parrot @universal soldier by saying that everyone at Hall of Comics has always been so warm, inviting and knowledgeable people. It is a great crew to chat with! Loosing Johnny isn't just a blow to the hobby but to the community as well. It was always so wholesome to see him interacting with kids. The way he would encourage them to not be shy and walk on up and check the books out was so wholesome. He will be missed.

Thank you all for the kind words and reflection from those who knew him. I stopped in there yesterday where it was just myself, his son Matt, Jake (co-owner) and Chris (manager). After some hugs and few tears they let me know that there will be a celebration of life and service in early September. For those local, I'll DM you with the details if you are able and inclined to go.
