I've always been a bit of a hoarder -

 

ASM 300 - 50+

Secret Wars 8 - 50 +

ASM 252 - 25+

Thor 337,338 - 50+ of each

X-men 1963 - 3 to 10 copies of all issues

Peter Parker #1 - 15 copies

Iron Fist 14 - 10 copies

 

Probably 20 other meaningless issues that I have 10 copies +. A lot of them I just boarded and bagged when I bought them new and will sell in 20 years. Who knows, maybe Thor 337,338 will be the next Hulk 181......

Whenever a comic is promoted thru the yin-yang in Diamond Previews or Wizard as the next guaranteed investment book, do NOT buy a sealed case of 200. I am starting to get sick of seeing cgc'd complete sets of Origins at every comicon. 27_laughing.gif

 

Hey but suckers did buy them initially tongue.gif. Come to think of it suckers STILL buy them on ebay.

I still have about 75 sets of Origin 2-6 with about 25 copies of the might marvel must haves that I am still able to sell once in a while.It is what got me back into comics selling again.Ive paid off a lot of credit cards took my family to disneyland.Still have a lot of books left over and still selling on ebay.All because of Origin 1. smile.gif Its really the truth! rantpost.gif

I buy favorite covers/stories and like to have extra copies for rainy days. Avengers 57 9.6 and 2 copies 9.4, #58 a 9.6 and 2 9.4s, #100 3 copies in 9.4 and 118 3 copies in 9.4 and Annual 1 I have 2 9.4s and a 9.2. Spidey 3 copies of 39 all 9.2, 41 9.4 and 2 9.2s, 44 9.4 and 2 9.2s, 100 in 9.6, and 2 9.4s and a 9.2, 101 I have 2 9.4s and a 9.2 and same with #102, and 3 copies of 119 and 120 - also 2 duplicate runs of the Annuals 1-6 all 9.0 to 9.4 cgc. Ghost rider 1 I have 2 9.4s and a 9.2. Spotlight 5 I have 2 9.4s and a 9.2. 2 complete runs of Surfer 1-18. Hulk Ann 1 9.6 and 2 9.4s, 3 hulk 118s and 3 Hulk 117s, 3 Hulk 122s and 3 each of 171 and 172. FF 55 I have a 9.4 and 2 9.2s, 72 I have a 9.4 and 2 9.2s, and 100 I have a 9.6 and 2 9.4s, 3 cpoies of FF annual 1 in 9.2 and 2 in 9.0 and Annual 2 in 9.4,9.2 and 9.0. AS as former store owner I have gotten stuck with a lot of unintended hoards, but ones I put away on purpose would beCrisis #1ASM #252Bryne Superman#1Grendal color#1Thor 337Allan Moores' 1963.and still to this day I buy every early Master of Kung FU I can obtain cheaply.

Man of Steel 1. Zillions of them.
Almost every colletion I have ever bought has a gazillion Man of Steel 1s and some New Mutants 1 also.These are by far the most speculated books of that era. I think I sold at least 50 New Muties #1 for every X-men that month and NM was my best seller for quite awhile. Not everybody bought it but most who did bought multiples,which was not common at that time.Same thing with the Man of Steel.That book outsold the rest of the DC line combined.I had a person who wanted to buy several thousand copies but went to a competitor when he was offered a bigger discount.

Being the astute speculator that I am...I was smart enough to buy multiples of John Carter of Mars(Marvel) #1-3...Tarzan(Marvel) #1-3 and Shade, The Changing Man(DC) #1-3..... crazy.gif

I parted with my best hoard in September of last year, when I unloaded 140 copies of Ultimate Spider-Man 2 to a major dealer. I kept around 15 copies and still have 6 or 7, but I let the big hoard go... frown.gif

 

Oh, one other hoard I almost forgot... I have 120 copies of Cherry Poptart #17 that fell off the back of a truck tongue.gifcool.gif

25 copies of Youngblood 1. I don't even like Liefeld's work particularly, and this was the only pure "speculating" I've ever done. At the time, I'd ordered 50 copies (on the advice of several of the original Image founders), but the comic shop owner - who I've known and patronized for almost 20 years now - begged me to let him buy back 25 of those, 'cause he ran out. I wish I'd let him have 'em ALL back smile.gif
