The August Heritage Auction

Great pick-up, Ryan! I'm working on a Silver Streak collection myself, almost done. It's a fun series and some of the books are real tough to find. Some great covers in the run. I'll start a thread on them once I get all the scans done.

If you ever need a Silver Streak #1, let me know.

893scratchchin-thumb.gif ...i may have to get back to you on that in the future (would make a nice companion to the #2). I have to slow it down a bit now... this has been an expensive week! picked up some keys books at Metro, and an all time classic from CLINK (stay tuned on the group shot thread). Plus another book on time payments!! YIKES! All well worth it though.

Looking forward to seeing your early SILVER STREAK's, CentaurMan!! How are those CLAW stories??? Along with the EYE SEES, the CLAW is a fascinating character!! The more gruesome and obscure, the more I like them!! I am very happy to have nailed both of those characters in this auction.

(it was your scan of the KEEN DETECTIVE FUNNIES #18, CentaurMan, that spurred me on to bid on it.... I agree, very underrated cover. Glad you had that issue already, or I wouldn't have stood a chance!)

Well I've won one book so far and lost out on 3 more via the floor/phone/mail bidding. I have one more that's hanging on by a thread for tonight. 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Well I'm done. I only won 1 book after the floor bidding ended:

Nice book Ryan. A real underrated cover.

This auction had no Centaurs that I don't already have. I hate it when that happens. So I picked up a couple of pre-Batman Detectives instead.

Did you get the #26? I've always liked that cover, and the "Batman appearing in next issue" announcement.

It's ok, Ryan, the Silver Streak #1 won't cost anything but a couple of Centaurs....

I only won one as well:

Still, I'm happy. cloud9.gif This is the book that featured the classic boulder scene later made internationally famous in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Wow, that cover is white. thumbsup2.gif

LOVE that cover, one of the best in all the run. Nice price, btw - that's essentially Guide for that book.

Thanks FD, I was willing to pay a little more, but was happy that no additional bids were made within the last 5 days. thumbsup2.gif

Well, I bid on a few things but won nothing. Wish I had the money to bid on the 1939 New York Worlds Fair 4.0 copy. Granted it tends to sell for under guide, but guide is $4,200 and sold it for $2,391.

Wow, that's cheap. Is it safe to put NYWF on the list of "cold" books now, along with Mad Magazine?

Was it ever hot? It's the first appearance of a key GA hero yet Adventure Comics 40 is like 3x the guide value of the NYWF.

The FC 328 is at 5x guide.

Holy cow, for a 9.2 copy! I hadn't been following this one very carefully, I am stunned by that price! hail.gif

The FC 291 also went for 6x guide.

This one I was following pretty closely, and was actually surprised it didn't go for a bit more. This was a good win for whoever got it.

What about 6x guide (before the floor!) for a 9.0??

I was also slightly surprised at the 291, especially considering the price that 367 achieved a few months ago. I expected 6k+

I think there are a number of collectors who are sentimentally attached to the 367 in a way that makes it stand out above and beyond the 9.4 grade.

Agree completely. Both the cover of and the story in 367 are much more memorable than those of 291. As someone aspiring to complete a high grade Four Color run (and someone who would pay $5K for a 367 in 9.4), I was surprised and discouraged to see the 291 bring over $4K. Likewise, I would not pay over $3K+ for a FC 328 in 9.2. I picked up the Crippen FC 4 cheaper than I expected and felt I got much better value for my money on that.

I looked long and hard at the Tec' 31 and would have paid more than the winning bid if it hadn't been for the unique selection of Crippen and Hamilton Disney books/art. Seems that every time I'm ready to switch over to DCs, the same thing happens smile.gif. Still, with the increasingly insane prices for Four Colors (and Disneys in general), even hero DCs are looking cheaper and cheaper.

I was somewhat surprised to see the Crippen WDCS 1 close at over $13,000. I had expected $10,000+ and would have bid that if it hadn't been for something I wanted even more.

True, it may have never been a hot book, but is a pretty desirable issue (to me anyways) It has a very early Superman story, Superman with blond hair on the cover, first published Sandman appearance, & the cool World's Fair tie in.

I think it sells for under guide simply because Overstreet overpriced it, and it's not a terribly hard book to find.

Sensation 96 was the book in question.

Guide in 8.0 is $281

Only 1 higher copy.

Currently is 1912 with BP. frown.gif

You probably have 2 committed bidders on this one, which is a very tough book in this grade. I know of one other copy like it (maybe a bit better) and the guy was thrilled because he had been looking for years. Still, while I am not surprised to see it go for well over guide, I am surprised to see it going as high as it is.

There are healthy prices on the Sensations after this issue as well, but none of them have the "Romance" appeal of this particular issue.

All the late issue Sensations got knocked down for record prices. 106 went for 4.5x guide for a 9.0. 102 went for 4x guide for a 9.2.

I was going to bid on it,but when it went over $3000 I passed. screwy.gif

I did manage to get a Cap 59, Subby 12, 27 and Marvel Tales 104.

The Cap 59 looked like one of the best bargains in the auction.Nice book.GOD BLESS...
