Strange Tales Collecting Thread !

As a Fantastic Four guy, Strange Tales is a must-have run. Those early Torch adventures, annuals, The Thing in a Beatle wig, the occasional Kirby story and so many little keys! Just so cool.

Doc is without question the star of the show, but even without him, Strange Tales is a really fun title.

Glad you said that - I can't recall where I heard this (probably because I wasn't collecting SA at the time), but someone related that the early (pre-Doc) Strange Tales issues weren't very good.

I read some reprints and disagreed, so I've already picked up 102, 104, 105, and 107 all CGC'd. They'll get de-slabbed one day, but right now I have plenty of other ST issues to read and enjoy.

After I finished the Ditko Dr. Strange run 110-146 I realized I couldn't stop there...so I promptly set out to acquire 101-109 in mid-grade raw...my nicest of the bunch just so happens to be the iconic #107 cover! :cloud9:

My Low grader...

That book doesn't look that low grade! You might be surprised at what that book would grade, particularly after a press, unless there is some hidden defect or bad BC. That looks nicer than a copy that I subbed for my brother that came back 7.0 from CGC earlier this year.

Thanks for the nice omments mysterio.

It has a slight breaking indentation in the middle which goes throught the first couple of pages. You can see it in the middle speech bubble.

But apart from that, i agree it presents well. I dont think I will get it slabbed though. I like to flick throught my raw books once in a while. I enjoy the touch, look and smell !(!) of an old book.

I hadn't seen that dent/tear on my first look, but even with that defect the book is still a keeper.

My brother and I always smell a book's pages as a natural part of the grading process. My collection closet has taken on the intoxicating aroma of old paper, and I just love it! :cloud9:
