i read them in this pizza place thats right next to a comic shop. i'll go there for lunch during the week. stop in the cs first grabe a few books. then read one in the pizza place while waiting for my grub. can't beat it. but i do think people look at me funny.

Someday your collection will be known as "The Pepperoni Pedigree"! known for the tomato-sauce fingerprint marks 27_laughing.gif

I occasionally take trade paperbacks with me when I travel for business. Once when I got my upgrade to First Class (yeah, I travel A LOT) I was reading one and people around me kept looking at me. I wasn't sure if they were curious, thought I was weird, or were jealous that I was relaxed and enjoying myself. 27_laughing.gif Probably all three. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I was surprised to see a guy reading a copy of ASM #153 (from the 70s) on my subway commute to work last week. (And a nice copy, too!) After some time, I looked back over at him, and he had put the #153 away and was reading a nice copy of ASM #154. Funny!

.....Was it one of you guys? Fess up.... hm

I said "Never" because my books never leave my house. As most member of the boards know, I'm not an ultra high grade collector- only CA and the few moderns I have would be in this range. Still, even my low grades I like to take special care of and there really aren't any areas I'd feel comfortable reading them in.

Now ask me this question when I collected as a kid and I'd say no due to embarrassment. But getting married and being in the military frees from 1. worrying about what the girls will think and 2. getting beaten up for being a geek ;)

On the rare occasion that I leave my cave and venture into a public place for something I have no problems at all reading a comic.

Though I tend to take a trade rather than an individual issue.

When my wife goes to the casino I'll always bring a couple trades and then just sit in one of the restaurants or the hotel lounge and read. Same if we've got a dr appt or anything like that when I know that appointment time rarely reflects AIS time.

Never noticed any strange looks but also nobody has ever asked me about the books and if they're worth reading.

Since I opened my own shop, I try to read in public as much as possible. I've seen people on the train (subway, here in Boston) reading comics (trades) lots of times -- Y, Strangers in Paradise, et cetera.

I don't know that I've ever seen people reading floppies in public. Hmm.

Once, actually, at a bar, when I went with some friends after a comic shop visit. But since they were mine and my friend's, it doesn't count.

I have heard tale that some of my customers (Hub Comics, Union Square, Somerville, Mass!) take their books to the coffee house across the street and read them there, though. :)

I don't in the general public due to wanting to keep my books nice, and that I prefer to have them on a flat surface to read. I would read trades in public if I have them with me. I did read books at a friends comic shop, and currently at work.
