Scrooge
Thanks for the pics BZ!! I really like the illo above, very nice clean fine line. The girl on the right reminds me of Pat Ryan's friend, Burma. And, I love the alligator painting on the upper right.
Scrooge
wow, that one is particularly vile! It's a precursor to Weird Chills # 1.
comicdonna
More old photos... This was also one of my earliest ways of being introduced to comic books! My childhood barber always had a stack of them to read! Mine had a stack of Playboys!
shiverbones
true, but the skin blotches on this one make it really disturbing!
Scrooge
true, but the skin blotches on this one make it really disturbing! B/c THIS is NOT disturbing At least the guy on the Horror Stories is still alive
Jayman
true, but the skin blotches on this one make it really disturbing! B/c THIS is NOT disturbing At least the guy on the Horror Stories is still alive As much as I love this WC I have to side with Shiver on this one. Though the facial expressions of terror are what make the pulp cover better than the comic for me! Prehaps if Baily had the woman awake with a frightened look on her face, it would shock me more. selegue
More old photos... This was also one of my earliest ways of being introduced to comic books! My childhood barber always had a stack of them to read! Yeah, he got them from me. A stack traded for a haircut. Including my *choke* *sob* Amazing Spider-Man 1, because it was kinda beat up. shiverbones
I agree with Jay about the woman being awake. Also there is a cartoony aspect to the Weird Chills that keeps it "Safe"

Scrooge
And there are even comics on the table. Looks like a FC Mickey Mouse on top. Here's the back cover to Amazing Stories from November 1938, predicting the plane of 1988. I only wish trans-Atlantic flights were that posh

BangZoom
Here's the back cover to Amazing Stories from November 1938, predicting the plane of 1988. The artist of that illustration is Julian S. Krupa. He was also the illustrator of an oversized coloring book (10½ x15") which was titled "Planes of Tomorrow." It was published in 1944 by Merrill Publication Company. His grandson wrote a brief profile about him. Link
