When I was looking through old pulps for Schomburg illustrations, I stumbled across this ad for Marvel Comics #1.

Wow!

Looks like they re-used the "Marvel" from Timely's Pulp line and the "Comics" from DC's books at the time.

This is an unusual cover.

 

It pictures prisoners escaping from an internment camp in the U.S during WWII.

The story identifies the camp as being near El Paso, Texas.

 

Great cover. That's one that slipped my attention over the years. So what kind of politically incorrect story is it? How things have changed.

 

I'll have to keep an eye out for that issue.
