Speaking of Fletcher Hanks, I thought that the villian in this Angel splash looked a bit like a Hanks' character.

Any thoughts on how the film Metropolis influenced comics and pulps? I just watched it for yhe zillionth time.

I watched Metropolis a couple of times and read the original novel. I agree with the art deco comment that someone else made but streamlining was supposed to be futuristic. You can see the effect in early Shuster work. Pretty nice stuff. I don't think we saw a robot like the one in the movie, in the comics very often. I thought the movie had some social commentary that was pro labor union and I am suprised it wasn't smashed by the US Industrial/Military Establishment. It needs to be updated with color and sound but perhaps the Blade Runner had a similar theme without the obvious socialism.

Actually IIRC the version originally released in America was heavily edited.

If you get the METROPOLIS DVD released by Kino video, you'll find it a complete enough viewing experience without color. They re-made the soundtrack based on the original score, and the results are amazing. GREAT musical score.

They restored the entire film, and there are loads of parts included that I had never seen in other versions. I saw it when they released the restored version into arthouse theaters, and I was so blown away I went back the next night.

Worth picking up just for the scenes of the futuristic cities, and the Maria robot.

I like collecting books with radio or comic characters. There were quite a few others. Does anyone have any? I have a lot of Whitman books but have never found the Superman book.

I thought I would give this thread a :bump: as it's too holy to be on the second page.

Lately I have been looking for Baker covers which I posted in another thread. I also found a few planet cover scans that I liked while looking for Fletcher Hanks stories (that don't seem to be in Planet 6 and 8). I wonder what kind of bird we have on the cover of Planet 6? It certainly is in the raptor category. And more robots. :cloud9:

I guess BZ must be on summer vacation (shrug)

Come September, he'll walk out of the shower and it'll be like all this never happened.

Never pegged you for a Dallas fan......

The TV show. Bobby walking out of the shower and his death, and the whole season had been only a dream

I wasn't. If I've seen more than 5 minutes (total) of the show, it would be a miracle.

It's just one of those pop culture moments that "everybody knows".

I know who Britney Spears is too w/o being a fan.

Unfortunately.

Are you saying that you wish you were a fan?

She probably has done a few things that you could be a fan of. (shrug)

Britney Spears acts like one of my relatives unfortunately. So bless her and what about those Classic Comics. I don't see any of those on this thread. Perhaps they were too late for the Campbell Collection or they are still tucked away. I found this one in the "C" box from Wally.

SkyPink,

Are those Roy Rogers Annuals in the GCD. Are they printed in the US? I will have to check the guide. I collect Roy when I can find good quality stuff. He was quite a singer and he raced motorcycles too. The books that I have are mostly text except for the BLB. I am still looking for Winston SciFi series seen below.
