  1. Actually, I think that the prices on Showcase 22 will cool, eventually. I doubt it will happen in the next 6-9 months though and then I believe it will plateau. Avengers 1 has a problem in that it really doesn't have the same cache nor is a major "character". Avengers 4 has maintained the heat and has not leveled off -- Showcase 22, always thought to be "common" in low grade, is now on fire in any grade. The drastic run up is approaching AF 15 levels. $10k, while an aggressive offer, to me is less than what it would fetch at auction currently. Even before the run up, 7.5 would have been a really high grade copy for this book. Green Lantern is also one of the few crossover characters that also seems to appeal to Marvel collectors. It doesn't hurt that his current book is actually pretty good as well. I think Showcase 22, will have some stagnation on the lower grade copies seeing a post movie drop, but that copies 7.0 and above with superior page quality, no date stamps etc., will see unbelievable price increases. As for changes in the guide, don't count on that. The data is mostly collected prior to August, and Bob Overstreet has always taken a conservative approach. It took years for GL 76 to move up -- and even then -- it was because of years of record sales, not just one year of multiple sales.
  2. Guys, CS has been on the probation list before hasn't he? And his sob story now seems even less believable about liquidation because of a lost job. This guy is a problem to deal with and quite honestly, it's obvious you can't trust him. At the end of the day, I couldn't imagine any of these boxes being deals and given his past history, couldn't deal with him.
  3. Actually, that's not true. Any writing can be evidence of a contract, signed or otherwise. Now, what damages you could claim in court is an entirely separate matter. Hey Brian, In the absence of a down payment on the HT 1...would the court support Adam's decision to delay shipment on the Avengers 4 (Had he decided to go that route)? You'd need to see all the writings to see what the nature of the transaction evidenced. I can't be sure based on what I've seen.

  5. There seems to be no doubt that TFL bought and accepted the obligation to buy the book. He made no payments or efforts to pay the down payment. He paid off the Avengers 4 and received the book. Adam viewed this as a combined transaction (the HT and the Avengers) while TFL thought it was separate and individual. It's clear that TFL owed an obligation to Adam to make payments. He tied up a significant book for a long amount of time. But what really is getting everyone is how he essentially chastised comicseekers for doing the same thing he did and extracted money out of him for it. Even if you entirely buy everything TFL has said, there remains NO doubt that he has been hypocritical. All told, my advice is the same, this is someone that you cannot deal with in good faith. My transaction with TFL was a little difficult but ultimately resolved favorably. However, given this now public incident, the manner in which it was handled, the defense postured, and what I gather may be further issues with him that may come out -- I will say this, along with the rest of the probation list, will be someone that I cannot deal with in the future.
  6. I get a lot PO'd when some little kid tries to play the old "I have personal problems" card. Get it through your thick skull, EVERYONE is dealing with , every single day - some have cancer, or are otherwise sick or dealing with ill relatives, some have kids with terminal or chronic illness, while many have and will lose family members. Look at the week Nerf has had - I sincerely doubt your's can compare to that, so don't even try, and I don't see him scamming money and defaulting on deals, while acting like a major tool to his buyers. Unless you're DEAD, buck up and fulfill your responsibilities, either through quick-and-easy refunds or sending the books. No kidding, Why are people even wasting their time with a snot nosed fool kid is beyond me There you go. It's obvious he's not remorseful, now it's time to either refund the money or own up to the obligations. Otherwise, people should refuse to do business with him, and if they don't know about him, they should be directed to this thread. No point in arguing or asking questions, it's not worth the time.
  7. I've always understood the probation list to be based strictly on the criteria that if you don't pay for an item or you don't follow through with a transaction (meaning selling as well) after 30 days without good cause, you are added to the list. Likewise, if multiple members have a problem or there is a particularly egregious incident you are added to the Hall of Shame. I don't think there's a criteria beyond that. The only mechanism for enforcement has nothing to do with preventing someone from posting (only the mods can ban or suspend), but by the marketplace self policing and refusing to sell or buy from this member. The only resolution is to alert people when he buys something and don't buy anything from him.
  8. krap. Now give me those MIS books.
  9. I don't like the idea of commenting on people's grading (for myself) though if someone has an issue or thinks I missed something, i certainly have no problem with the comment being public in my thread. I don't like people advertising their own stuff for sale in my thread (this happened once) but comments, banter, critiques, are all part of what would happen if I had a booth set up and people were coming by. I see plenty of threads where I disagree with the grades, but it doesn't always mean the person can't grade. I see this from everyone on the boards to long standing members to complete newbies. On the whole though, most of the sellers I buy from here have really solid grading. What's always amazing to me is that some of the best graders don't get nearly enough traffic through their threads given the quality they offer. Of course, be careful what you wish for if you want public critiques of your grading -- the spotlight might be turned on you.
  10. the hulk 181 is his original owner book, he bought it off the stand... 30 years ago or so.
  11. We'll see. I haven't been paid yet on my book, though I remain hopeful. We may be revisiting the issue. Just for the record, Brian is referring to Wolfhulk. Thanks for clarifying that, I thought FK was referring to pajama boy. This is surely cause for wolfhulk to be added to the list. Yes it may be time to add wolfhulk -- he hasn't responded to PMs, there's been no money order, and his BIN was even more clear with me than it was with grinder.

  15. Good god man!!! Now that is a book Thanks Bill!! The timing was right + I had to have it. TTA grail goodness :cloud9: there aren't many genuinely tough in high grade Marvels out there... but this is one of them. Spectacular book!
  16. Good lord. Where's Bob Storms? There is no grading college, so I'm not sure how you get certified as a "grading expert". Most "experts" I know have just as many misses as most experienced collectors. CGC is one opinion. You don't like it? Oh well. However, CGC is the standard by which other people are valuing the books. Therefore, if your "expert" grades 9.8 and CGC grades 9.4, nobody cares what the opinion is of your "expert". I've often found that people who complain about not getting 9.6s and 9.8s who haven't submitted before are simply finding out that CGC is far tighter than they imagined, ESPECIALLY on moderns. FYI, I doubt that CGC has had any change in tightening on moderns given that Paul Litch is still the finalizer. He was always tough on moderns to me. Anyway, this rant is basically sour grapes.
  17. Were those from that DC collection you picked up?
  18. I don't always check or post in this thread... not because I don't appreciate all the transactions or that I don't want to give kudos... But... if you are not buying from Flaming Telepath (Nick) you guys are really missing the boat. Great packing, fast shipping -- more importantly, the books are incredibly nice. This is one of the best order/packages I've ever received. Really nice quality books, generally better than advertised and completely well packed. I hope everyone in this community continues to support Nick's threads. He probably is, in my experience, the absolute best seller of raw books on the boards. Perhaps only Nik is his equal.
  19. Fresh back from CGC (see my forth coming sales thread in a bit) -- I had two disappointments I graded these two 9.4 and they both came back 9.2: However... the other 7, were all higher than expected: I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.8
