  1. Were those from that DC collection you picked up?
  2. I don't always check or post in this thread... not because I don't appreciate all the transactions or that I don't want to give kudos... But... if you are not buying from Flaming Telepath (Nick) you guys are really missing the boat. Great packing, fast shipping -- more importantly, the books are incredibly nice. This is one of the best order/packages I've ever received. Really nice quality books, generally better than advertised and completely well packed. I hope everyone in this community continues to support Nick's threads. He probably is, in my experience, the absolute best seller of raw books on the boards. Perhaps only Nik is his equal.
  3. Fresh back from CGC (see my forth coming sales thread in a bit) -- I had two disappointments I graded these two 9.4 and they both came back 9.2: However... the other 7, were all higher than expected: I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4, came back 9.6 I thought 9.4/9.6, came back 9.8
  4. She's fine, all is well, and the pregnancy is still going smooth.
  5. As someone who is an expectant parent (and for those of you wondering, my wife's ER visit was a miscarriage scare, but she is fine), I am thrilled at the prospect of children. I really have no idea just how much things will change, but I know they will change dramatically. There are times when I think about how much money I'd have if I didn't earn a cent over my base salary and my wife continued to work -- we could afford many, many luxuries in life. On the other hand, I'm not sure any of those material goods and financial comforts would equal the joys of raising and having children. I think it's hard to give up the focus on yourself. Until you have children, your life is primarily about what's best for you, when you have children, it becomes about what's best for them.
  6. Looks like you can't grade. Seriously, that last Avengers looks terrific. What made you think it was a 7.5? CGC doesn't seem to care when books at this grade level have dust shadows. That was the one I sold you correct Mike? As an 8.0?
  7. Wow Nik, unbelievable book. I posted these pickups in the philly thread, but I thought I'd post my new additions here too... Hulk 120 Marvel Feature 1 ASM 103 JIM 121 JIM 122 TTA 45 Avengers 110 New Mutants 98 Luke Cage 2 Avengers 101 Iron Man 56 Jungle Action 20 Fear 23 Sub Mariner 23 Sub Mariner 24 X-Men 25 X-Men 27 X-Men 29 Daredevil 98 (stunner) Avengers 38 (Mile High 2, unbelievable book) Avengers 24 (Mile High 2, 9.6, possible 9.8)
  8. Way to go Jeff! (thumbs u Absolutely the prettiest Planet cover. holy in . that's awesome. proving once again, i have not seen it all.
  9. Just catching up on this whole thread now... At any rate, I do think GPA is a useful tool, but it is certainly no bible, just like the Overstreet is no longer the only authority for high grade collectors. I think GPA provides useful data, but too many collectors use it as a pricing guide and as their foundation for pricing. I think it gives at least a starting point to know and track all the enormous amount of data that exists out there on slabbed sales. Others have made this point, but it makes it so that instead of having to track and kind of fumble your way through the market, you can have a resource where actual sales are reported. Now for a dealer like Bob, he already has a database etc. so GPA isnt as useful I would imagine for many dealers. Incidentally, I was with a major dealer recently and I asked him whether he had GPA... he said yes, but then when he went to price the four keys I was buying, he went to Comiclink to gauge his prices. I've also dealt with three private collectors, all of whom go to Comiclink to gauge their pricing data. When I shop with two other major national dealers, they completely disregard any reference to GPA. I've also noticed that sellers (not here on the boards) tend to disregard GPA while more buyers like to quote it. Still, for me, I find GPA to be a very useful tool... but I rarely if ever go to a dealer and ask them to do anything more than just factor GPA into the equation. Just FYI to all you people in negotiating with Bob: I've done many deals with Bob and at times have quoted GPA... it's certainly been a factor he's considered when I offered or counter offered at a book. It's all about having a reasonable discussion with the dealer and not going in and saying, well GPA says (x) and I'm not paying $50 over that and clutching it like a price can't be above or below it. There are actually collectors who do this, and I think it gets on some people's nerves.
  10. I think it's got a technical grade of 7.5 -- but it presents very nicely with wonderful color strike.
  11. I like your AF 15 you purchased Do you have an undercopy slabbed of the 233?
  12. I only like to do time payments with people I know pretty well... and if they had something come up, I would simply give them their money back. I wouldn't do time payments with them again, but I would let them out of it the first time with no penalty.
  13. Which is exactly why when the Double Action 2 came up, I advised my friend sell it to the highest bidder instead of selling it for a "bargain" to Ian... ahhhh... the infamous wheels are in motion thread.
  14. Oh don't worry -- I'll let him know. I told him at the time he sold way too cheap. He's got a good sense of humor. If you ever do want to part with, please know I'd pay top dollar... but I hope it remains part of your collection permanently.
  15. By the way, as someone who wants this, I'd never part with this copy. You should keep it -- it will probably be the nicest you ever see.
  16. This is the one you got from GA Collectibles right? Send him a link with the scan
  17. I have a relatively small stack (20 or so) books to list (the continuation of the ASMs I listed awhile back that were OO) and some other odds and ends. If anyone is interested, I will list before the boards shut down tomorrow (so tonight)... otherwise, I may wait til post SDCC. If you'd like me to list them... let me know. I'll post it up around 10 PM tonight EST if there's interest.
  18. What's that statement Storms always makes, you'd buy books from the devil if he sold them cheaply enough.
