  1. I have Bail's All Star 50-57 ...so, both our hands have "touched them " ...and I graded and looked through all of them as well. We were big fans of Adam Strange and Flash. Sorry to hear about Carmine's death.
  2. That robot reminds me of the Winston end paper.
  3. I'm sure you are right about that - and given the way the Iger shop appeared to operate, perhaps we may never know for sure which books he may have contributed to in some degree - layouts, etc. And some of the ones he did for - Atlas? - disappoint - barely recognizable, as if his heart wasn't in it, unless what I am distantly recalling were heavily over-inked by clumsier hands? So maybe there are things by him which have yet to be identified, because tey dont look like him at all..... Do you happen to know his first published work? Is it a Fiction House book? Judging from the checklist in the recent book, his first published comic book work would appear to be Jumbo 69 (cover date Nov 1944) followed by Jumbo 70 and Wings 52 (both with Dec 1944 cover dates). Fixed that for you.
  4. Blue Beetle was an interesting run. Art was sometimes great and occasionally uninspired. Kamen, Quinlan and Stoner did a lot of stories.
  5. I spotted this scan of the Smiling Jack Feature Book in my Flickr file. The exterior is a little scratched but the interior is very nice.
  6. Brackett and Hamilton were an interesting pair I guess. Saw this one on ebay.
  7. Johnny Cash filled in for A.P. after he died. There was a nice chat and duet featuring Maybelle Carter and Doc Watson on the "Will the Circle be Unbroken" album (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band).
  8. Boy had good stories... and interesting backup features.
  9. No known reason for it's scarcity, but it is tough. A copy went last year on Heritage for under $100.00. That's the only one I've seen. Maybe people didn't like the picture of the old lady tied up. Must have missed that one on Heritage. Possible that newsstands (or readers) objected to the cover image, although there was certainly a lot of rougher stuff on covers in the early '50s. I don't see why you would want APC 18. It is a pretty ordinary cover for Baker. APC 14 and 15 are much better.
  10. I don't know if the plot of Tom and Jerry changed much from the cartoons. I'll have to read another story. However, I do remember that the art was really good in the early issues. Perspectives, details in the background and full-body action shots added a lot of variety to the panels of the T and J stories. It was quality work like Barks but not by him.
  11. I am a fan of Our Gang especially with Barks and Kelly art but I never took a shine to Tic Tock. That Punch and Judy cover is pretty nice. I like the design on the outside.
  12. I picked up another Buck Rogers comic. Guess which one I am missing.
  13. SuperSnipe from eBay last week? I was probably your under-bidder Thanks for bidding the price up. Now we need to fight over a few westerns. I find it hard to resist the relatively low prices for Supersnipe, westerns and Fawcetts. Disney prices seem low too but not FC 9 and 29, unfortunately. These are all fun comics...and an especially evil looking pulp cover.
  14. Great shot bro, I still need the TTA #1 to take that shot I have the TTA but need the other two. I also have 27 and 35 but need to find them somewhere beneath all of the moldy musty golden age.
  15. Ogden did some nice work on Skyman. Issue 2 is my favorite. I own that exact copy of Skyman 2...did I send you a scan of it or is that just a coincidence? Sorry, I used your scan because it was better than my photo. These are mine...
  16. Too cool, and I think $100 is a great deal considering how pristine that looks. I agree. $100 is a wonderful price for that book. Ogden Whitney is under appreciated, I think. Maybe because he spent most of his later career toiling in relative obscurity at ACG. He did a great job on Sandman too.

  18. Too cool, and I think $100 is a great deal considering how pristine that looks. I agree. $100 is a wonderful price for that book. Ogden Whitney is under appreciated, I think. Maybe because he spent most of his later career toiling in relative obscurity at ACG. His early work at DC was pretty good.
  19. I like that Weird Tales cover. Thanks again Todd. Always like that Supersnipe too.
  20. I purchased these All Stars from Ray Bottorff Jr. He originally got them from Jerry Bails and was asked that he sell them to GCD listers. I don't think these were considered Jerry's collection but only the remainder of his stock from his days as a comic book dealer. I like to think that the taped up comic, 47, was Jerry's original copy but there is no C of A, just a memory (mostly mine).
  21. I have Bail's All Star 50-57 ...so, both our hands have "touched them " If you want to know who tore one of the comics on the right hand side of the cover, I can take the blame. I posted my All Star purchase from Jerry in the Golden Age forum.
  22. These should be listed as big fish that got away. Well maybe not so big but I have been trying to get this group into my collection for a while. Ad is from All Flash 8. I only have one in decent shape.
