  1. Great List! I can say I own one book from every tier and two from the top five! There are some surprises in there but all in all nicely done! (thumbs u It's great to hear you've got so many Jayman, though I'm not surprised! Still got that killer Startling 11?.... Those are all great covers. I think I have one or two of them but most of them have been available. Don't know why I haven't purchased them. Only the Startling Terror and Venus is really overpriced.
  2. That might be one of my top three favorites that I don't own. Thanks for posting! bb
  3. Need coverless copy of Marvel Mystery 36. Need a cover for Captain America 40 and All Winners 13. Need a cover for Captain America 13 (But I changed the scans below to add a little variety). I could also use the cover to Marvel Mystery 30 which had a similar theme and a cover for Marvel Mystery 24. Need covers for Hangman 2 and Jackpot 2, Top-Notch 11 and 12. Need a coverless copy of Pep 33. Need a cover for Pep 25. Need a coverless copy of Speed 35, All American 52, Punch 10 and Sensation 27. Add Daredevil 27 and Boy 30 to the need covers group and Dynamic 9 and Flash 42, 82 Firestone 1947 and Mystery in Space 2 to the need coverless copy group. I have two Blue Ribbon issues (13 and 17) that need a cover and one that needs a centerfold. Will trade a Batman 22 centerfold for a Batman 19 or 36 centerfold. I have a Batman 68 with no cover and the last ad page missing for trade and a coverless Batman 22 with the second page missing. I have an extra copy of Batman 40. Could use a Mystery Men 27 cover like the one below which isn't mine.
  4. What does the back cover of All Star 3 look like? I have a bunch of back covers that I can't match up with anything. bb
  5. I was reading some Sunday pages in Feature 24 the other day and noticed that George Marcoux also drew a strip called Toddy. Looked like Supersnipe's alter ego. Nice work. Thanks to GA.UK
  6. P.S.: Bonus points for who can name the artist. Could be Kamen or some Marvel artist from the sixties.
  7. Crane does seem to frequently get the short shrift from comic fans when they talk about the greats, which is unfortunate. However, I know his fellow cartoonists always held him in the highest regard. I've read many interviews with cartoonists and Crane's work was always held in the highest regard by his peers. I even recall reading an interview with Caniff in which he was quoted as saying Crane's strip had influenced his own work. Noteworthy is the fact that Crane won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben award in 1950 (right between Alex Raymond who won in 1949 and Walt Kelly who was the winner in 1951). Regarding the issue of the appreciation of realistic vs cartoonish art: It is, thankfully, a prejudice held specifically only by some of the collectors on these boards and not shared by all fans of comic art. In the last year I've become a frequent reader of many other forums (including: http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/ ) and the comic book work of many old time greats (such as Dan Gordon) who are rarely mentioned on these boards, are given a great deal of attention at these other sites. His work is so impressive in full size format. I have a page with a crazy witch doctor that reminds me of a Barks' story. Turner's work was pretty good too. Crane taught him all of his tricks.
  8. very nice, that's one of my favorites as well. Mine, too (thumbs u For me its possibly the best cover from the early Actions! Its a better cover than 7,15,17,19,21,22 -and just as great as the 10, 13, and even 1! Love my Action 20; love yours even more...full date stamp I like the 17 cover a little better but both are pretty good. bb
  9. Who found you? I have to know where to send the reward. It's mostly penny rolls but they add up.
  10. That is beautiful. I could use one of those. Anymore available?
  11. This one was kind of a late birthday present grail for me from me. and got this one too.
  12. Nice looking batch of Scrooge books...Scrooge. Looks like your #2 is out of place but who cares. Every time I think my Scrooge collection is finished I find that one is missing. Great stories and at least I have had a chance to read them all. I started catchin up on the WDCS stories recently but the site went down. Are they posted anywhere else? bb
  13. Crime Mysteries is an awful title - dull stories, poor artwork, a collector's nightmare. I laugh at people who collect it. It's embarrassing. Dont buy it. Buy Lassie instead. NOOOOOO ... not Lassie, my run isn't complete either. Let them collect Little Iodine. Maybe my interests are too far ranging Were those your only issues? Love the # 3 which is a swipe from a Spicy pulp. IIRC, the cover to 3 is early work from Romita. I like Perfect Crime.
  14. There could still be a small premium based on the high demand for all these Fox Giants. But not to the same degree as, if any contained a remaindered Phantom Lady or All Top. Yet, they know very well that contents will vary. Why would they do that? And then why did they not list any issue numbers? The only thing that is a known constant would be the covers and interior of the covers? Strange. Variety #nn, Fox Giant 1950 (From Comics.org): Feature Presentation, A (Fox, 1950 series) #5, Jungle Jo (Fox, 1950 series) #1, My Love Memoirs (Fox, 1949 series) #? Romeo Tubbs (Fox, 1950 series) #26. Does anyone else have any variations of contents for this book? I had two copies and they were both the same as above I think. I enjoyed the Black Tarantula story.
  15. I haven't found a Phantom Lady comic in any of the Fox giants I've looked at but the romance stories and westerns are good enough. No premiums on these but probably could have been on the variety.
  16. A big congrats on that book Jim It is the only big key superhero GA comic I've never owned. And in all probability, never will. So, I'll enjoy yours vicariously I was going to post my old reader copies of Millie the Model and Nellie the Nurse but I guess I'll wait. Even my new Captain America issue can't compare to Marvel 1 in any condition.
  17. I don't think I will ever get the first issue but I have found a lot of those issues in poor-good condtion at low prices. High grade is probably a little tougher. In spite of having the best paper quality of any golden age comics to start with, WDCS seem to have tanning due to poor storage in attics of the old house. Fortunately some of them have been stored in cool, dry places. The stories are still fun to read and when I buy one, I usually read it. Barks is just too good to pass by with a glance. bb
  18. I love those funky Captain Battle covers. I found a couple of copies of the issue 5 cover which is by Gabrielle who draws a lot like Kirby. bb
  19. I had to scan it in two parts and join them in photoshop. Some great Kirby art in there.
  20. My first glance at the boards in ages. When does summer vacation start? Is the 16-page surprise that the first four wraps are text stories and ads printed on glossy paper with sepia ink? I just got a Crime Does Not Pay 45 (sorry, no scan, no working scanner, and at the moment no office to put a scanner in) and was surprised myself. Jack This scan was the first interior page of issue 49 which had 12 pages of ads, 1 letter page and 2 pages of text. Art by Tuska and additional features by Palais and Alderman filled out the issue. Pretty good stuff but a little bloody and gruesome. I imagine the content was similar in issue 44. Welcome back Jack. Just checked my issue of CDNP 44. It does have an additional 13 or 14 pages of True Crime text. I guess the idea didn't work since they switched back by issue 49.
  21. I think I picked this up recently too. The airbrushed Schomburgs are great. I wish he had made a few of those for people who wanted recreations. bb
