  1. I like that one! Any cover with a major villian should be on my want list. I think the snow man cover belongs on the list cause you can't tell whose who at a glance but I can't put any GA Sups there cause I like 'em all.
  2. Sorry I missed that one. I like the Oop issues by Standard. All of the covers look like work by Schomburg but only a few were signed.
  3. I almost forgot the Batman covers. These are pretty collectable for Batman fans and Merry was an interesting character too. SS 78 would have been a more interesting cover if the colorist had not screwed up. The other Robin should be dark-skinned. Perhaps the American comic reader in 1948 wasn't ready for a black Robin?
  4. Ich bin gut danke Rich! Und du? Hope you have been continuing to work on the comic room, you've made a lot of progress over the months in fact: Das hast du sehr gut gemacht! auf wiedersehen Wilhelm Is this the correct response? Es gehts und Ihnen? In Belgium everyone said Bon Jour but I was told I had to be more cheerful.
  5. I like most of the Star Spangled run as long as it is reasonable priced. You got Simon and Kirby Newsboy Legion and Siegel's Star Spangled Kid in the beginning and Robotman and Robin in the middle and Tomahawk and Ghost Breaker at the end. Some fun.
  6. I noticed the reprint was bound into a Buck Rogers book that I purchased last summer.
  7. I just noticed this cover on a Popular Comic. It is a very obvious German Stuka dive bomber and is dated Dec 1939. Are there earlier examples of the war. I think the Action 17 cover is dated 1939 as well. I don't remember what the other example are. Anyone else? Action 17 has a WWI vintage tank on the cover. Tanks didn't seem up to date until 2 years later.
  8. Do you collect the Winston SF series? I really love their dust jackets and end plates.
  9. When I was a student at the University of Toledo, Janis Joplin appeared for a concert which was very good. My former girl friend used that Beardsley image in a silk screen poster to advertise the concert. Ah memories.. That's very cool. Did you see Jimi Hendrix when he played at your school? No I didn't. Saw people like Tim Buckley and Paul Simon (with Art) and probably a few others that are faded memories.
  10. She's pretty buff in that pic. Looks like some of the muscle women of today. And great Valentines Cover on the Action 71 Lois looks slimmer wearing a tank top in her pictures in the story. However, she looks a little muscle bound in that splash and Sup is a little wilted.
  11. Obviously, Jerry and Joe had thought about a scenario in which Lois and Sups could get married which would result in the Superwoman comic. Perhaps our little imp could be tricked into giving her superpowers while he was her suitor as in Superman 51. They thought about it as can be seen in this splash from Action 60. Or this later splash where they find a blond hair version. The logo and cover could have looked like this.
  12. I picked this one up recently and it seemed appropriate for the day.
  13. [WT ran a lot of verse. One of the things I love most about comics is the super-speed at which they move, and the only thing faster than a comic is a poem. I’m running one that I wrote back when I was buying and reading Salome and Three Tales. Not perfect but FAST! When I was a student at the University of Toledo, Janis Joplin appeared for a concert which was very good. My former girl friend used that Beardsley image in a silk screen poster to advertise the concert. Ah memories..
  14. "Land of the Pygmy Indians", who spoke in Iambic pentameter as in "Song of Hiawatha" or a play by shakespeare, was a unique story as was the "Square Egg" story. Not my favorites but like em a lot. I think the story below was translated into Arabic but not really sure since I don't know the language
  15. Nifty books guys. I didn't know about Blaine nor had I seen his work before. Reminds me of Aubrey Beardsley who died young but created some influential work before he passed on.
  16. ah, to try to narrow to one "single" greatest is nary an impossible task, as each Barks fan will no doubt have their favorite... for me, as a scrooge mcduck fan, I have to say FC 178...but your milage will vary (thumbs u I prefer the FC 291 story but I think US 5 is a close second. I also read the "Second Richest Duck" story many times. If I had a copy of FC 29 I might be singing its praises but I don't. The Egyptian scenes in the book are great. Did Barks visit England and visit the artifacts in the British Museum or go to Africa?
  17. Probably "Leave It To Binky" #1 You're on fire tonight. (thumbs u Congrats, BB. I assume that means you have added a new child to the family. Our new grandson arrived last week. He has Batman PJs to wear, but no Super Jim Jams, and lots of outfits with Ducks. We share the middle name Blaine which Saunders used to sign on his paintings for saucy pulps . It was also Rick's name in Casablanca. I can think of no other source for the name.
  18. Looks like Oksner's work but only guessing.
  19. Probably "Leave It To Binky" #1 The binky is awfully popular around our house since Little BB arrived.
  20. 1. Green Arrow - Prof Merlin 2. Crimson Avenger - Big Caesar 3. Star-Spangled Kid - Needle 4. Shining Knight - Red Dragon 5. Vigilante - Dummy This is the way it was in Leading 1.
  21. Thanks for hosting another show. I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a Kooba today and you are invited over for a duck dinner. You bring the duck! Our home is heated by Blue Coal. It provides a warm and steady heat. Color added for your safety.
  22. Sonny was a fan too, although he didn't always spell his name correctly in cursive. I am glad he saved this one since it is in pretty nice condition. The Four Color versions are mostly line drawn without a wash. bb
  23. Since someone else likes them, I will post a few more. Tonto sometimes had to fight 3 guys alone but the Lone Ranger helped in this one. Easier on Tonto. And the Lone Ranger probably learned this trick from Tonto. I think the covers were also wash and not painted. Anyone agree or know otherwise?
