  1. I do like those early Lone Ranger comics with "wash" covers. The GCD lists this set of covers was by Mo Gollub and painted. I think they must be wash and painted started with issue 32.
  2. In this case, I think that "looks good for its age" must be considered for understatement of the year! And from an eBay seller, too! Looks great for its age, would be infinitely more appropriate. Excellent grab, Andrew! Looks like a Barks' name on the box. Was that a Kelly or Carl Buettner joke or did Barks do the cover?
  3. Congrats again Todd It was great to see you again, and to see that smile on your face when the deal was struck! And thanks to David, again, for treating us all to a delicious dinner at Trattoria Giuseppe Thats an amazing book to own Fury. It truly is one of the great GA covers. Thanks! I've admired it for years and am very happy to have one. I have always wanted a copy of that one. The Tip Top issues with Foster Tarzan stories are terrific. The ad is from Broncho Bill single series. I have been to Fellini's in Newtown Square, I think, but never to Trattoria Giuseppe. Are they related? bb Not sure. Trattoria is in Edgemont, just down the road from where I am in Newtown Square. Should I check out Fellini's? Fellini's is a great little place. Haven't been there in a while. It was BYOB

  5. I bitterly complain about the tape on most orders I get in the mail but the last order without tape or cardboard resulted in a chewed corner for Planet 4. bb
  6. I never heard of it. I see via philsp.com that the second and third issue of that title ran stories by Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson which is an interesting bit of trivia. The only Centaur pulp related magazine I have in my collection is Detective Digest. Did they publish these as well? I think there is some mention of the comics in these later issues. This ad was from a Centaur comic if I recall.
  7. I have been picking up a lot of bits and pieces lately. This one is missing some cover which I spliced back in but the story is complete. Love the cover.
  8. I am very fond of those re-creations by Hasen. Did he do the Christmas Comic Cavalcades as well? I like the early issues but the later issues are pretty good too and I have purchased a few.
  9. I like the eyeball on the plate It does look tasty. The splash is even better.
  10. His crime comics were also spectacular ... bb
  11. His crime comics were also spectacular and the combination of the two are examples of creative genius. bb Orgy of Death
  12. Starting out with a BANG! Sub-100, Walt Kelly, nice copy AND beak abuse by a cricket. Outstanding. Jack (surprised I can still find my way here) Glad to see you back, Jack. Where you been?
  13. Thanks Sky Pink, science why did it have to be science?
  14. How about a nice Comet story from Pep Comics #3, March 1940? Note the comet was totally ripped off by the X-Men, but that's besides the point. This is a controversial story in which the Comet gets hypnotized and KILLS police officers! Enjoy guys.... Enjoyed reading this sheild. Alothough I'm concentrating on Plas right now...... that sure is nice, and where I seem to be headed. (thumbs u I appreciate you taking the time to post all that up And as we all know, this didn't turn out well for the Comet...but eventually we got the Hangman.
  15. I love the subtle sad humor in this cartoon. I can feel his pain.
  16. I picked up a few more issues of Smash last year. Not enough but now I know there are a bunch of Cole fans out there bidding against me. This is one I have had for a while but I still like it.
  17. I haven't purchased this one yet, but I will if I can find one I like.
  18. I liked the scan so much, I went out and bought the rest of the book.
  19. This issue had a letter by Issac Asimov but they misspelled his name which he complained about in another letter which was published two issues latter.
  20. I like those Planet comics and the early Pulp as well. Planet V1#4
  21. It means ready in a minute but can fight all day. What were you thinking of?
  22. I think I like the art by Murphy Anderson better than Whitman. And I like his Life on Other Worlds series.
  23. I only have a few scans of Dr. Drew. You can add some more. Did you write an article about Dr. Drew for CBM or is that a different PCal? This was a nice strip stuck in Fiction House with other strips by Baker, Kamen and Webb. It is amazing that it gets noticed at all but I think of it as a French Impressionist comic strip. Nice work. The art also reminds me of work by Eisner (layouts as well as inking). The last story or two in the series must have been inked by someone else because it looks different. I like this splash too. and this one.
