  1. Palais also worked on the story of "The Blonde Queen of Crime"
  2. Beautiful books! Wow! Nice! That looks like another Palais cover. Is the GCD wrong? Always wanted that one and it doesn't have to be that nice.
  3. The Flame had an interesting origin but he had even more dramatic entrances. His first appearance. His Origin Dramatic entrance by Lou Fine Scans from GA.UK
  4. The cover of MM 27 also mentions the first appearance of the Wraith. That looks like Hitler in the bottom right hand corner but he seems rather jaundice due to a liver infection, I guess. Cover by Patenaude
  5. Origin of the Wraith from Mystery Men 27. I think it is listed incorrectly in Overstreet but Keltner has it right.
  6. The plane was a Lockheed P-38 Lightning although Fokker made a plane with a similar design. It was eventually replaced by the P-51 Mustang at the end of the war.
  7. I think the Firebrand name was used for a Quality character and the costume was used by the MLJ character Inferno but the riding pants and plane seem to be a copy of Blackhawk. Art by Edd Ashe.
  8. Sometimes the story is an origin, a debut or guest appearance and sometimes a "Legend is Born".
  9. First Bob Hope and Jackie Gleason. Well maybe that was the first DC Jackie book.
  10. Crossover Spider Widow in Phantom Lady story.
  11. First time Barks was allowed to sign his work.
  12. Felix was looking good on the cover of his first issue. I seem to remember very strange cartoons featuring this character. He often seemed a faded version of Krazy Kat but he survived in the Caplin family's Toby Comics line without Lil Abner.
  13. When the Black Terror started out, his uniform was kind of baggy around the knees. He had to wash it 3 or 4 times before it became Schomburg-Skin tight.
  14. Wolverton could draw a better dirigible. What if he created Batman? Interesting thought.....
  15. That ship reminds me of a Buck Roger spaceship and not a dirigible.
  16. You can argue whether this is horror or a western but anything with dragons and skulls that isn't Conan fits into the horror class for me.
  17. This was probably the first and last appearance of the Queen of the Gangsters but she was good enough to be the backup story in Phantom Lady 17. Art is by Rudy Palais.
  18. I think this is from the Ultra-man origin. I should probably go back and read it again.
