  1. Love the Red Dragon cover. Here are a few that I have picked up recently. A little photoshop was done to fix them up for presentation. I always liked that Boy Commandos cover and I am working on that Crime genre box which seems better every day. I like all of the National comics that I have picked up and any cover by Cole is good.
  2. Bingo. I also think that as time has gone by he realizes that those two particular books will have much more of an aura surrounding them as long as they remain unslabbed. The speculation about grade and value will continue to be fodder for new chat-board threads, convention discussions, and collector's fantasies until the moment the books are graded and/or sold. All of the talk adds to the perceived value in the long run. I would bet that the three million dollar books all hit those prices exactly because Dave's books have not been graded. I couldn't agree more. The mystique of the books unslabbed is fascinating . It would be cool to see a 9.4 or 9.6 on them someday. When I look at Eric Roberts AF15 in that grade, I get woozy! By the way, I met the dentist in Baltimore and he was carrying a box of GA with him. I asked him if I could look at them and were they for sale but he refered me to his ad in Overstreet and walked away. Strange and unfriendly but conventions are a busy place with lots of people to see when you have a box of top of the line comics. bb
  3. Approved 9 has a really nice cover but Outlaws isn't a Baker cover. Oh, you said Bakerish. OK but I usually think of Webb or Kamen as Bakerish. bb
  4. My Kirkland Drug Store copy fits in here cause it has a stamp on the cover. But I photoshopped the evidence to improve the presentation. bb
  5. I have a copy of this issue but I am too lazy to make a scan. This one is an edited version from GA.UK. It is a Cap 20 story about the devil.
  6. I like that Binder cover, giant robots and the big splash from Cap 18. I think Cap Mavel 20 also had a pretty nice splash.
  7. Isn't there a Johnny Depp movie coming out on the Lone Ranger? Maybe this might be helping boost prices? I heard he was going to play Tonto. Sounds like a good start. The last Lone Ranger movie was pretty weak. Horse opera has to be something special before the kids will lay down their money. Nothing recent has been as good as Silverado and Dances with Wolves as far as I am concerned. But I still think Red River was one of the top 10 movies ever made.
  8. I think the Gumps are an unappreciated family. It is more of an adventure strip like Terry or Capt. Easy. I like the Gumps: Ma, Dad, Chester and Shrimp. (thumbs u ]
  9. BZ, I think you have already shown the All American 22 but didn't show these other two. Do you have the later issues of All-American? bb OK, I like the cars on the GL covers. Liked the movie Cars too.
  10. John Hart said in an interview that Silver liked him a lot more than Clayton. Jay just liked everybody. bb
  11. My budget is shot now that I work for the state. I can only afford the covers and not the reprints unless they are used. Missed a Popeye FC the other day and that kind of hurt. I hope one of the board fans got it and I don't see it again at a higher starting bid. This was the first Stoner Phantasmo by the way.
  12. I enjoyed picking up a few more covers this week.
  13. Sorry, I mixed that up. Should have known from the style but ....
  14. Here's a nice painted cover for Indian Chief (wish I had a better copy) and Indians 1st issue mentions Long Bow and a few others. I have another issue which I can dig out but you probably have these Fiction House issues already.
  15. Briefer wrote and drew stories about a couple of native American characters, Mantoka for Centaur and Real American for Lev Gleason.
  16. Lon Chaney and John Hart look pretty good. John also played the Lone Ranger with Jay Silverheels and Capt. Africa I think or maybe the Phantom. Anyone know? He was pretty good as Hawkeye.
  17. If you have to steal, then steal from the best.
  18. The Texan had Hawk Knife by Baker. Oooh! And Cheyenne Joe. Lone Rider had back up stories about Swift Arrow. Fiction House had a title about the Apache Indians. Feature stories were about Geronimo and other well known native Americans. Avon had a story about Victorrio but it was a one shot. They also did an issue with Pawnee Bill but I don't think he is in the right genetic group. And while I was searching I saw this swipe by Johnson. Does anyone recognize the pose?
  19. I don't think Tomahawk was an Indian.
  20. Happy Indian in Boy's Ranch but don't know if he was around for more than one issue. Red Ryder's buddy Little Beaver was around for a long time with lots of Dell books as was Tonto.
  21. And Standard had Injun Jones who was a member of the Apache tribe. They also had Rhoda Trail who wasn't an Indian but I like her name. Nighthawk wasn't an Indian. Hannibal Hawkes was his name and he wore a mask. Should of changed his name too if he wanted a secret identity.
  22. Those are really nice. I like the Christmas giveaways.
  23. I think Leif does a great job on that blog and the last two articles have been particularly interesting. Li'l Abner was a gigantic hit back in the fifties and had some terrific art. Sawyer's comments about working in Capp's studio were enlightening and don't forget Alter Ego's article on Tobey publishing in the next issue or so. If you want your strip to get fair treatment then it is important to have the family own the publishing house. Good lesson to learn. Too bad Carl Barks never had that advantage. bb
  24. Happy Birthday, Flee!! The earliest double cover that I know of is Mark Zaid's More Fun #42 (April 1939). I think this is my earliest double cover (July 1943) and it is about 4 years later than that one. I have a couple of others that are late forties or early fifties but nothing mint.
