  1. I think there is mention in Barks' biography that he was a failed chicken farmer. I don't have the dates or the location. I know my wife used to complain about collecting eggs as a youth when visiting family on their farm. Chickens protected the eggs when they could.
  2. Golden Eggs may have been after the story appeared in the funnies and the Paint Book.
  3. The rooster story is based on the cartoon "Golden Egg". I wonder if it was inspired by Barks' chicken farm experience.
  4. It is always nice to add a Military comic to my Blackhawk collection.
  5. I think the store that I went to in Elizabethtown, PA is where I purchased the Sensation. I purchased several items in Adamstown and Kutztown but usually at Renningers.
  6. I noticed the cover of WDCS 19 in LFC 20. I like the cover. Overstreet mentioned that the pictures in the Large Feature Paint Book were enlarged from the Sunday strip.
  7. None of the books that I mentioned were cheap but usually 50% off guide if fairly graded. I also picked up a Centaur Western when searching antique stores in San Francisco. I was there for fun and it was an adventure searching around Frisco but parking on a hill was scary.
  8. I purchased a bunch of Batman Comics and some Marvel Mystery comics from a guy at the Yellow Garage Antique Store in Mullica Hill, NJ.
  9. I purchased a Human Torch 3 and Action 28 from a guy in an antique mall but sold them. He sold me Marvel Mystery 26 when I visited him in Baltimore. I still have that one. I purchased a copy of Marvel Mystery 21 from Ernest Toth when I visited his house. You couldn't walk around inside of his home because it was filled with stacks of books, magazines and comics. He also had 3 garages full.
  10. I have purchased a lot of items from antique stores but only a few that were worth keeping. Most of the time the comics are overpriced. If they were a bargain, they would be gone. I paid less than guide for this Sensation 3.
  11. I think the Powerhouse Pepper story was from Joker 14. My copy looks like it has had a few repairs but it also has a pretty good Tessie splash.
  12. I thought I was greedy when I had two copies of Batman 25. What about Batman 20? Its a good match for 25.
  13. Superman 100 is probably the most costly but the Luthor cover is probably the most collectable. Bat and Sup made a big deal about 100 issues but Super 100 didn't.
  14. I have a lot of WDCS, Four Color, Lone Ranger, Looney Tunes, War and Romance comics but I think Horror comics probably are the most popular non-hero comics. Disney collectors used to be in abundance and Duck Four Colors could still be hidden away in many collections but Thing, Vault, Weird Tales of the Future, Crypt and many other horror titles are sold on the open market or bid on privately by a large number of vocal collectors. Timely/Atlas collectors usually will have more horror in their collection than Tessie or Joker. EC is probably more popular than Archie but early Archie and Pep are more scarce. OK, just some thoughts...
  15. I like the cover of the National which looks like work by Fine or Crandall. The back cover is similar to a Smash cover which is good but not as sharp as the Uncle Sam cover.
  16. I am thinking that 106 may be a little tougher to find in high grade because of the cover but I like 102 and 107 too.
  17. Yes and nice covers by Baker, Kirby, Guardineer, Frazetta and Harmon.
  18. All of the great ones contributed to westerns, it seems.
  19. I have a Popeye book that is animated and a Green Hornet. The Morgan's treasure is all picture by Barks and one of the Buck Rogers is all picture. I have seen a Bugs or Porky all picture but I am sure there are many more. Robotman, did you collect the earliest softcover BLBs? I think they are harder to find. I also heard that a lot of mint copies of many BLB edition were found in PA but most were purchased by Geppi.
  20. I have had two separate copies of that issue. Both were incomplete.
  21. Marvel Mystery 36 has a more underwater cover than some that have been mentioned.
  22. I like that Seven Seas cover a lot but my scan seems a lot brighter...
  23. I think the Mickey Mouse Book can sell pretty well and the OZ book. The Macy Mickey Mouse giveaway can fetch a pretty penny. There are a lot of earlier editions that collectors look for. I paid more for my Flash Gordon issues because some of them were in very nice condition. Most don't sell at guide prices.
