  1. I picked up a couple of new issues of the Shadow and added a cover or two.
  2. It is good to see the color pop on some of those Fiction House comics. I purchased a new Jungle 77 and added it to some of the other bright copies.
  3. I just noticed this group. I think there were a lot of people who contributed to the data information side of comic book collecting. Michelle Nolan, Raymond Miller and Howard Keltner come to mind but Gary Carter made a glossy four color contribution that still impresses old fans who cherish the faded blue ditto copies of fanzines published in the sixties.
  4. I disagree. I think there are a lot of really good extra covers that are photocopies. I like my Adventure comics 64 cover especially well. Here is a group shot with 5 other "real" covers and the 64 still looks pretty good. However, I don't think there is any reason to slab a comic with a photocopy cover unless it is only a portion of the cover.
  5. I have several collections of dailies that were pasted into scrapbooks. Fortunately the stories were also reprinted in color.
  6. Was Frazetta's strip too late for the Sunday action/adventure type strips or did he just stop working on it?
  7. Aside from all of the fanzines, he also made an effort to provide a handbook for fans.
  8. On second thought, Biljo contributed more to the growth of underground comics and could be replaced. Don and Maggie Thompson-Publishers of Comic Art and editors the Comic Buyers Guide. Roy Thomas-Co-creator of Alter-Ego, editor and writer at Marvel and current editor of Alter-Ego Jerry Bails and G.B. Love for creating early comic buyers fanzines like Comicollector and Rockets Blast which were combined. Alan Light-Editor/Publisher of the Buyers Guide which held everything together for years before the electronic age. Bob Overstreet-OK, he gave everything a price, maybe not always right but it was a lot of information before the Grand Comic Database (which was created by Jerry Bails) Probably should mention Howard Keltner for his comics book index and Jerry for the Who's Who. What other projects? Microfilm (Jerry), Microfiche (don't remember). Reprints (so many)? These guys helped the hobby grow. It has been more of a rugby match than an intellectual pursuit. Probably need to add the inventor of eBay and management at CGC if we want an electronic update to the list.
  9. I would have to add Roy Thomas to that list and G.B Love. Buddy, Grass and Ron Foss were probably more important for creation of amateur or underground comics.
  10. Captain Marvel Jr. 2 predates Hit 29. I don't think it mentions the detective's name but everything else is there.
  11. OK, maybe Batman 14 instead of 13 or 17 or heck I probably will have to die and you can pick them out of the garbage can.
  12. I would keep Batman 13, Action 17, All Star 33, Marvel Mystery 26 and Sub-Mariner 8, I think. I would also like to keep Uncle Scrooge 1-10 and all of the Donald Duck Four color comics but I will stick with this group. I don't have any high ticket items so I probably would keep items with good memories or emotional attachments. Not the art or the character but other stuff.
  13. Classic Comics can't be the first cover because Sherlock is on the cover of Hit 29. I just thought it would be good to mention that an entire story with Sherlock playing the leading role was published in Classic Comics 21. The Hound story was published soon after.
  14. The Classic Comics story was originally published in July 1944 but it was a complete story and not just a cameo.
  15. I like those Wonder Comics and Startling Comics too. Doesn't matter who the character is as long as Schomburg does the cover. I think this Startling 27 is a new addition to the box.
  16. I had three copies of that book but can't find any of them. Law Breakers has gruesome covers. Especially the severed tongue issue.
  17. I like the colors on that Voodoo 17 but I don't actually have a copy.
  18. Since Ditko's other creations have made billions of dollars for Disney/Marvel, how long before we look more closely at these creations for Charlton.
  19. I have been adding to the stack of Detectives for a while and not posting. Here are a few that were too old to be in the silver box.
