  1. This is more of a justification then a recent purchase. Well it is at least a purchase that I made in the last 10 years, I think. Spy Smasher 7 has a pretty cool cover. Stan and Oliver think so too.
  2. I have issues 18 and 22 but 18 is a big restoration. One copy of 22 is trimmed but the other is not. Both are favorites.
  3. So here's the contest. Which cover has the most skulls? My guess is Jojo. Do you have one with more?
  4. I think that Jelly Men splash is from Marvel Mystery 31. Yes, it predates "The Blob". How far back does this story go? I don't know but I have had dinner at the "Home of the Blob", which is the diner used in the movie. Also been to the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville.
  5. Both of these are EC Stoner covers, I think.
  6. and there were so many excellent Marvel Mystery splash pages.
  7. Even Schomburg would be dizzy trying to keep up with this Guardineer splash.
  8. This looks like the first Antman story. It is before Tales to Astonish 27. A little dark but still belongs in there but needed a Kirby touch.
  9. JR Williams predates Dr. Seuss. His strip started in the early 1920s. The Worry Wart was part of the Willets family and was featured in the Funnies. I found this one in my old stack of Comic files from Comic Book Plus.
  10. J. R. was also well known for his collection of Cowboy cartoons and life in the machine shop.
  11. I have enjoyed reading J.R. Williams cartoons since the early fifties. He was reprinted a lot in early issues of the Funnies, I think. I also have a couple of hardback books that collected his cartoons. The youngest boy in the family was a worrier.
  12. Perhaps some of these World's finest are a little late for Golden Age but they make a nice group.
  13. Some of my favorites which may have been posted before but nice to see again. The issue number 3 is highly restored but it is nice to read the origin story and compare it to the revision published in #30.
  14. By the way, one of those Phantom Lady comics is real and the other two are photocopies.
  15. I have purchased some Phantom Lady copies and a Pep 22 and a few others. I like reading the stories and would buy more if I wasn't buying so many other original comics that are only slightly more expensive. Maybe its because the smell of rotting paper jogs my memory but fresh ink does not.
  16. I met Jon at Ciorac's house and he brought the Planet 1 art plus Action 1 and Detective 27 and a bunch of really rare items. Unfortunately, he never made it to the mini-cons at Todd's house. I am not sure if that is a picture I took of Jon's Planet 1 or someone else posted it. The Action 1 has my fingerprints on it.
  17. I am not sure why Roussos's inks looked a little rough. I always prefer Ayer's when I can find them but I liked Inky's work on Batman. Perhaps the shading by Kirby was more than Inky could deal with while on the clock. Fine line work may be more suitable for Roussos's style.
  18. Whenever I wonder about my collecting frenzy, I thumb through the EC box.
  19. I was wondering whether the Superman 6 was a Cookeville book...
  20. That one always reminds me of Schomburg's cover for "Step to the Stars".
