  1. I do like Li'l Abner. He was enormously popular back in the fifties and sixties. He even made the cover of Life Magazine. Al didn't back away from expressing his opinions about the U.S.A. But he was more conservative than the editors of Charlie.
  2. I think Wolverton won a contest for his ugly woman drawing. I find it painful to look at. I prefer his Powerhouse Pepper or Bing Bang Buster. By the way, Noah Beery, Jr. played Buster in Howard Hawks' "Red River". Howard also directed "The Thing", "The Big Sleep" and "Sgt. York" ...and Walter Brennan was the first "Groot".
  3. That one is really nice. I don't remember seeing it before. St. John also does some interior illustrations. Any good ones in those issues?
  4. If I remember correctly, BZ has a bunch of Weird Tales. I only have a few of the early issues. Red Fury sold me one or two of his second copies.
  5. This cover is sweet, do you own a copy? If I had to choose an Asimov novel, it’d probably be "Pebble in the sky"… together with the Foundation's Edge (I believe, or maybe "Fountation and Earth") it’s the one which shows mostly his jewish heritage… very fascinating. I have a bunch of pulps but they don't look near mint like those that BZ has. I like the robot covers and I also like pulps with stories by ERB or his relatives. JC did some nice illustrations for that Startling issue.
  6. All the Adam Link stories were published in Amazing. The image I posted is an advertisement that appeared in Fantastic which was publicizing the appearance of a new Adam Link story in the April issue of Amazing Stories.
  7. Any issue with Bing Bang Buster is worth keeping.
  8. I remember seeing an ad in the RBCC for the Fantasy Illustrated when it was first published. I was very impressed with how professional it looked; I'd never seen a fanzine that was of such high quality. I wish I had purchased a copy of it when I had the chance. I like your copies of Weird Science-Fantasy. I have #'s 27 and 28, but am missing #29. I agree. The work by Spicer and others was very professional. I purchased three of the first four issues when they were first published. However, I didn't start reading Binder stories because of the Adam Link strips but picked up the Isaac Asimov anthology "I, robot" instead. Most everything I read by Isaac was wonderful (Pebble in the Sky, Naked Sun, Caves of Steel, Black Widow Mysteries, etc.) and I collected all of the paperbacks until the later additions to the Foundation series. I also read his Green (In Memory Yet...) autobiography. He was a great role model for science nerds like myself.
  9. Wow, never saw the kit before. I had seen a few Green Lama pulps
  10. Wonder is always nice to add to the "W" box.
  11. I have the three comics with the robot saga but It wasn't EC that started my robot addiction. I first read Adam Link's Vengeance in Fantasy Illustrated. The art was by D. Bruce Berry. I notice the story was from Amazing Stories as well. Saw this on ebay.
  12. Sweet! I didn't know there was such a nice copy. Dime a dozen. Ken Actually they were 10 cents a piece. See the price tag...
  13. All but one of those was from the flea markets. Did you used to search for robots in PA? I knew a guy that did that. I asked him about the robot I had as a kid and he called it a "Zoomer".
  14. I used to find Baker books at the flea market and they were cheap. The price went up and the collections disappeared. I can still find Little Lulu, however.
  15. Glad to see someone else collects western pulps. I picked up a big batch because my father used to collect them. They had some pretty good characters like the Silver Kid, Freckles and Kid Wolf.
  16. I only have 2 or 3 Don Winslows and they are not in that box.
  17. Congrats Gino! When you PM'd me about the book, I had no idea it was a done thing! Well this is my 1000th post and it couldn't be to a more nicer guy. Youve always great things to say about all the collectors and collections here so here's a big hand(s) to you for two SUPER acquisitions!! The Harvey line needs a thread. If there isn't one already, I can't think of a better book to kick it off GIno. And the FF, you know I love Ace almost as much as I love MLJ's and Looney Tunes! Sweet! thanks Corey my friend that's much appreciated dude!!!! I certainly will either dig up the old one if I can find it or start a new one!! I'm in the process of getting a new iMac desktop bc my old ones running pretty slow these days so all my posts have been from either my phone or my iPad but when I do I will make that happen they have a nice little lineup of books I'm sure all would enjoy seeing and sharing!! Speed was a pretty good comic. A lot of work by Schroeder, Schomburg, Elgin, Rice and Powell and others. This Splash from Speed 36 brings up a familiar topic.
  18. I have forgotten the source of the Jumbo 47 but I think It is from a more recent lot that I purchased off ebay. I'll check my records to see if it is listed on an invoice.
  19. My copy of Jumbo 47 has Paul written on it. Does it count as part of the collection?
  20. I found this panel in Phantom Lady 16, I think.
  21. Yes... Closet is full too but it is a small closet.
  22. It is a great cover and that is a nice copy! Ok, now I'm leaning more towards the #31. No, No, Nothing happening here. This isn't the issue you want. This is not the issue I was looking for...I may move along now. Hey wait a minute, don't you have some nice Bark's stuff to post in a different thread? I'm always looking for more Captain America Comics but only from 3-74. I can't afford the first two issues.
  23. I believe we are looking for a colossal squid which is the largest member of the mollusk family. Disney probably made it even more gigantic.
  24. It is a great cover and that is a nice copy! Ok, now I'm leaning more towards the #31. No, No, Nothing happening here. This isn't the issue you want.
