  1. Some things I picked up at WonderCon yesterday...
  2. Nice books, Jim! I remember turning my nose up at these in the 15-cent bins at Comics & Comix in SF back in the mid- to late-'70s...
  3. I was directed to these boards by one of my psychiatrists, who thought that finding a bunch of like-minded comic book fanatics, and killing them one by one after getting to know them moderately well, would be therapeutic. To date, I've been on step 2 for what seems like forever...
  4. Here's a nice TFT #24 I picked up recently... back cover is even cleaner!
  5. Profuse belated congrats on completing the quest, Ian !! I guess things are quieting down around the Levine household these days...or is there a tug-of-war underway for reading rights on the NA 26 ?
  6. Nice pickup, Norinn I got a sizable run of VF Marvel Collectors Item Classics from SNE a few years back. The only 'hg' books I've ever purchased from SNE, and they were reasonably close on grade. I like all the early Marvel reprint titles, but MCIC is my favorite - Fantasy Masterpieces being a close second. I'm convinced these early reprint titles are due for a significant jump in price; for many next-generation collectors, they may be the only SA versions of early Marvel titles that are accessible price-wise.
  7. And here's a nice MSH #1 I picked up cheap...bottom corners appear blunted in scan, but they're not
  8. Awesome Thrilling Comics, NearMint! And Doiby, that 'Tec 36 is gorgeous - how much work was done to it? Here are a few I picked up at the recent 'Con in Oakland... Spirit # 3 (nn) - 1st Series (Quality Comics/Vital)
  9. Thanks, Surfer - yeah, I was thrilled to get 'em so cheap... once the seller got a bit more feedback on his comic grading, his next round of offerings went up considerably in terms of % of guide bid... He's now listing his Tales of Suspense run, here under the ID "cgweed." If he says it's a VF+, it's at least a VF, based on my experience.
  10. And this one..! US afficianados will appreciate this issue in decent grade...hard to find 'cause most were read to death - reprints were banned by Disney for many years due to "revolutionary third world theme"
  11. Picked these up on eBay for about 30% of guide...inching closer to completing the TTA 40 - 101 run...(earlier Ant-man issues are on the radar, vaguely; only have # 38 at the moment)
  12. Will the Scandinavian Barks collection include the "Atom Bomb" story, I wonder? I'm tempted to scan the whole story and post it, but the book's tucked away now and I don't really relish laying it flat on the scanner anyway. I saw a copy up for sale the other day on eBay, with half the cover missing... looked like it was going to sell for peanuts. I shoulda bought it just for scanning the interior! Love those MM mags... I've considered trying to collect those, but gotta stay on target with the Barks complete run quest..! (Still got a long ways to go...)
  13. Those are some beauties!! That file copy is awesome. Here's a grail I picked up recently:
  14. Glad to get in on the duck action before this thread drifts off page 1...which I hope it never does! I believe Magic DeSpell's first appearance was US 36 or 39... I believe the US 64 was ultimately banned as much for the way it portrayed asians as for any real commentary on vietnam. I have a beat up reader copy somewhere, I'll track it down and re-read. You meant Flintheart Glomgold , not Goldglom Other keys include FC 223, "Lost in the Andes," aka "the square egg story." This is definitely a key in the sense that it's valued higher than the FC duck books around it, including FC 199 I think ("Sherrif of Bullet Valley"), and this is due to so many people remembering and loving the story. I would list Donald Duck # 26 as another key of sorts, since it's Donald's first issue under his own title (after 25 appearances in FC), and it's the only Barks story based on a cartoon..! That and the fact that many kids cut the back cover off in order to make the "Donald Duck Halloween Mask" make it a tough find in high grade. I'll try to post a few Barks classics this evening... this is a Barks-only thread, right?
  15. Thanks, Oct.! Love those Kelly covers almost as much as Barks !
  16. Thanks! #98 is tough to find in decent shape... I got it (and the Whiz 58) from Redbeard at WonderCon. I always seem to drop a few hundred bucks with him at that show...I guess it's a good thing I don't live closer to his shop in Tahoe...!
  17. And one more... First appearance of Uncle Scrooge in WDC&S
  18. That Sensation is gorgeous and the Mad 1 9.8 is mindblowing !! Here's one I picked up at WonderCon a couple weeks ago:
