  1. I foresee the next CGC statement to be, "Scratches and scuffs are a naturally occurring phenomenon on all plastic products. This can also include mislabels, encased pubic hairs, upside down comics or anything else we may come up with, in the future, that our customer base may complain about. If we do approve a free reholder that WE consider unacceptable, it will probably come back a lower grade because FU."

I agree. It seems this is across the board.

I replied, "I did see the memo, but these were submitted well before the memo came out. As I understand it, anything sent in after that would no longer qualify, correct?.."

    Their response:

'Thanks for reaching back out. We do understand that it may seem this way; however, Newton Rings previously were not automatically approved Mechanical Error submissions and it was determined on a case by case basis. At this time we cannot accept these as a Mechanical Error submissions. We can offer you a credit of $25 to your account if you would like to proceed with Reholdering the books.

As mentioned previously Newton Rings are a naturally occurring phenomenon and reholdering the books will not guarantee that they will eliminate the Newton Rings.  These can occur at any time and may even develop over time on holders due to the crystal clear nature of the plastics.  Thank you.'

Not sure when your books were submitted but I had one ME, due to Newton Rings, received on 5/1. Shipped today, at no charge.

No one reached out to me but I was waiting for a call after you posted this lol.

If this happened to me and the newton rings, in my opinion were unacceptable,  I would ask it to be escalated to upper management. If they still denied the no charge reholder, I would tell them to go ahead and process the order. Once the book(s) were back, I'd file a chargeback with my bank and be done with CGC.

Just so you know, any books currently in their pipeline for newton rings WILL NOT get a new case unless you wish to pay for it. Even for books in their facility before the announcement.
I was just contacted via email about 16 books out of 76. This is something that really irks me, as they were sent out well before the announcement.

I would encourage you to ask to speak to the higher ups about pushing those through. That's outrageous.

Can you see the small scratch?

This is example of a book I would NOT send back for ME.  This to me is not a big deal.

I also think CGC would not consider this to be ME either.  Now you would have to ask CGC for an official ruling, so don't quote me.

Again for me there is a reasonable parameter I personally am okay with to sell and or keep in my collection.  This is the best example of one them.

    Picture 2 of 2

I can agree with you here but only because it's on the back cover. If it was on the front cover and obstructed the art, it's getting sent back.

    Thank you.

Now here is the thing for me there is a difference between obvious ME's and OCD nutjobs when it comes to CGC cases.

I am not going to return a book to CGC for 1cm scratch on the bottom of the back of the case. That does not bother me, nor Newton Rings.  If a seller provides nice front and backs scans then its up to the buyer to determine their comfort level of wanting to bid or not.

In the past I have sold CGC books with some debris or a a piece of hair in the case, however I take close up picture of it and inform the buyers that its there and they can bid accordingly.

Unfortunately,  most of these defects do not show in a scan.

So you had a problem they fixed it free of charge, and since I would assume you open your CGC boxes within a day of receiving them then 14 days sounds reasonable to me right?

I submit about 1200-1500 books a year, min of a 102 per month.  When I get my books back I open the box and if I see real ME's I mail them back within a week.  14-days is more than enough time and very reasonable timeframe.  It's just a return policy that most retailers have.

Personally over the last year and a half I have seen way less ME's and QC problems on my books.  Again maybe I am getting lucky, but that is what I have seen on my end at least.

You're a good seller. Most flippers don't care about the QC issues. A 9.8 is a 9.8 and they don't care about the smudges, scratches or newton rings. Flippers are the main source of income to CGC, so until they stare caring more about the quality the product,  things will only get worse.

Apparently they're not able to avoid this defect and as far as I know, there's no fix for the consumer.

This is so inaccurate, it's disgusting that someone from CGC told you that. Every single book they send out with Newton Rings is avoidable.

It's a matter of quality control.

Every one that I have sent back. has been corrected. It may have taken CGC two or three times to get it right but there's certainly a fix for it. Anyone saying otherwise is lying or ignorant.

If they told you no, talk to their boss. If their boss says no, talk to their boss.

If you look as Kasdan's Twitter post, he states that the cast has been released from their contracts, the show is not in pre-production for season two, and the are zero dates set. Yes, scripts are written, but this is saving face on his part, not reality. There are countless scripts circulating Hollywood that will never be made, so writing it means nothing.  Plus, if the cast members do sign contracts elsewhere, and have other commitments putting the group back together is a logistical nightmare.

Thd show was one of the lowest viewed D+ originals.  It may have been in the Neilson streaming top 10 once, but I am not sure it even managed that. It was very expensive to make, and Disney is cutting costs.  Not very hard to do the math and see this show is toast, at least in it's current form.

Seems to be mobile view versus web view. What I can’t see on my phone I can on my desktop.

A temporary fix until the problem is solved, there should be a "desktop" view option, on your phone, when you pull the tracking page up. This worked for me.
