Four JEFF HAWKE dailies by Sydney Jordan (layouts) and Colin Andrew (finishes) from the 1960 story, 'Survival' (my favorite JH adventure . . . the artwork is uniformly superb. Some examples from my entries, including three panels in detail to better showcase the art:
I have those two HC collections and they are beautiful. Congrats on getting the story.

I doubt that I’ll change my nominees between now and the fifteenth so I’m sending them out now.It was really hard for the this year. I don’t like to put more than one item in a category which means in this case that my Scribbly covers and my Pitarra con sketch were battling it out for the 5th spot. Axe-Wielder Jon won out.My EntriesPublished/Unpublished Comic Book CoversSugar & Spike #91 Cover by Sheldon Mayer - https://cafurl.com?i=28403This cover was published. In fact, he liked the idea enough that he used it on both S&S 91 and S&S #24. It’s a classic S&S seasonal cover set on the beach in summer. Sheldon often did seasonal/holiday based covers. It’s also classic Sugar - not quite in touch with the world.Published/Unpublished Comic Book Splashes, Title PagesNo entryPublished/Unpublished Comic Book Double Page Splashes and SpreadsNo entryPublished/Unpublished Interior Panel PagesNo entryPublished/Unpublished Comic Book Pin-Ups, Illustrations, Trading CardsNo entryPublished/Unpublished Strip ArtAt this point, Wayne was drawing most of the strip, but Joe still would do faces (for consistency) and layouts (sometimes). I see him in the faces here. I love the Superman figure and the Nazi planes which as you can see in the Additional Images are going to get theirs pretty quickly. At this point, Superman was not a distance flyer so he swam the Atlantic in both directions in what seems to be minutesPublished/Unpublished Commissions/RecreationsSugar and Spike 100 Cover featuring the Groo crew by Sergio Aragones - https://cafurl.com?i=28402Another of my S&S faux 100 covers, this one done by the Maestro, Sergio Aragones, featuring the Groo crew as kids from Groo #92/93.Unpublished Sketch Covers/Convention SketchesSugar and Spike Meet Axe-Wielder Jon by Nick Pitarra - https://cafurl.com?i=28425Axe-Wielder Jon is the new epic by Nick. It’s available on Zoop. Jon is “a ruthless killer in a world of monsters and mayhem makes a precious discovery and learns what a man is willing to lose to protect what he loves most.” I can’t wait for it. I love Nick’s work. In this case, I had him add a sketch of S&S with Jon to my Sheldon Mayer sketchbook. I think he did a great job, but I hope the kids get away safely!Sugar and Spike 100 Cover by Walt Simonson - https://cafurl.com?i=28404Walter and Louise are two of the kindest and fan friendly people that I know. Walter doesn’t do commissions (with rare exceptions), but he will do convention sketches for fans until his hand falls off. I’ve wanted a commission from him for some time, but I never had a good idea and then it clicked. I printed my S&S 100 template (donated by Dave Aikins) and planned my attack. I had three days at Baltimore Comic Con and needed three things - his signature, a tiny Sugar and a tiny Spike sliding down it. Walt did it! Signature and Sugar on the first pass. Spike on the second. A non-commission commission!Published/Unpublished Media artwork (Music, TV, Movie)No entryPublished/Unpublished Non-Comic Covers, Pin-ups, Illustrations, Gaming ArtNo entryPublished/Unpublished OtherNo entryHonorable MentionsI dislike putting multiple pieces of the same type in the contest to avoid splitting the vote. That said, the faux S&S covers are all awesome so they are in the Honorable Mention. The other Honorable Mention is the unpublished Scribbly cover with its recreation from the Harlan Ellison collection. This was hard to leave off the list, but I decided to since few people know Sheldon Mayer and his work.Published/Unpublished Comic Book Double Page Splashes and SpreadsScribbly 13 Cover (unused and recreation) by Sheldon Mayer - https://cafurl.com?i=28400Though this cover was never published it was intended for Scribbly #13 though the story idea was repurposed for Buzzy #33. Scribbly was a cartoonist who started his career in his early teens to support his family. He was Sheldon Mayer’s semi-autobiographical character. From the Scribbly, we gained the hero of heroes - the original Red Tornado (Ma Hunkel), an original JSAer. Scribbly work was very close to Sheldon and I’ve wanted a piece for a long time.My faux Sugar and Spike 100 coversThis was a great year for those besides the nominated ones (the convention sketched one by Walt Simonson and the commission from Sergio Aragonés, I have three others that delight me.

Sugar and Spike 100 Cover featuring Beorn and Lars by Ben Bender - https://cafurl.com?i=28426
- Ben’s Beorn features the youngest Viking, Beorn, who shares a strong resemblance to my grandson, Lars. The family put 2 and 2 together and got this.

Sugar and Spike 100 Cover featuring Sonic, Tails, Dr. Robotnik, and Minions by Ken Penders - https://cafurl.com?i=28505
- Ken Pender worked on the Sonic comic book and I thought he’d be a good choice and he was. Excellent service as well.

Sugar and Spike 100 Cover featuring E-Man, Nova, and Teddy-Q by Joe Staton - https://cafurl.com?i=28424
- Loved E-man from the first time I read his stories and I’ve enjoyed Joe’s work for a longer time than either of us would like to admit. I am thrilled with this.

Sugar and Spike 100 featuring Darkwing Duck and Gosalyn Mallard by James Silvani - https://cafurl.com?i=28506
- I had become aware of his work from a dinosaur book, but he suggested Darkwing Duck, a character he did in comic (most of his appearances) and one that I enjoy.

the winner can write all or some of it off in taxes
I believe that this is correct if and only if the proceeds go directly to the charity. If they go to Mike and he gives it to the charity, he can count the $ as a contribution, but the buyer cannot.
Of course, I'm not a tax expert. One should consult with a true expert. -

Congrats - great strip Alex! Did you ask Ike about how/when he got Shuster to sign it?
Yes, I did ask. He wrote that he met Joe in 1983 and got him to sign it. He also said he had bought it earlier from Stu Reisbord of Cartoon Carnival.

New Art Day on the New Year - Ironwolf by Howard Victor Chaykin
I first encountered Howard's work in the 70s with Ironwolf being the story that most captured by my imagination. I followed through Cody Starbuck, Scorpion, Dominic Fortune, and eventually American Flagg! which was interrupted by my roughly 10 year hiatus.Despite the time, Ironwolf has stuck with me and Howard kindly agreed to provide a "cover" for the series.I've never seen pages from the original series in the open market. Still this image scratches a long standing itch. Thanks for the painless transaction, Howard, and the wonderful image.

Hmm... Only one. That's a challenge since I've had a really fun year collecting - benefit of selling some of my comic collection.
I think I'll go with my Superman strip (1291) - signed by Shuster to Ike Wilson, probably laid out by Shuster with finishes by Boring and faces by Shuster as was still common in 1943. In any case, it looks great! Click on the picture for a bigger image.
In the Additional Images you can read the six strip sequence. -

@duplicatecomics, This came up earlier on this thread. Heritage changed the attribution to "Bob Kane Studio" after I and others complained. I think they should mention Lynne and the lawsuit. I think that extra information makes the piece more interesting, but...

Surely many of you watched the Darkwing Duck cartoon and some of you probably read the comics - at least, I hope so.
James Silvani drew most appearances of Darkwing in comics and he was willing to take on a commission for me. As usual, I arranged the price and subject and Kathy pulls the trigger and passes them to me on my birthday, our anniversary, and Christmas. I knew that she worked well ahead, but she’s had this one for about 2 years!

When you use the term agent, can you be more specific? Like an entertainment or literary agent who negotiates with publishers of first run stories?
That's my definition of an agent.
I do know that ComicArtHouse will handle convention bookings do Felix and Essential Sequential and others that I'm forgetting, but I don't consider that acting as an agent. -

what roles "reps" actually play in the comic art field. I wonder to what extent they set prices or dictate much of anything aside from selling pages and arranging commissions.
Promotion of the artist and the artist's work is another duty that I believe they provide especially Felix.

I heard back from Heritage. Here's the note:
QuoteDear Alexander,
Thank you for the heads up. I’ve edited the attribution to “Bob Kane Studio”. It will take our website a while to update. We appreciate your watchful eyes!

Man, you're not kidding. You've got personal thoughts in there, detective work, and provenance of sale! That was a great write-up, and I agree - those Nazi aircraft makes it a really cool strip - lots of action crammed into such a small space.
Well, I did cherry pick a little.

I love reading people's descriptions/provenance of the work they post. I try to do that when I can (and have the information or some personal musings about a piece) - because I think it really adds to the community in the sense of (forgive the cliche marketing wording) it makes the experience so much more immersive and personal. Seeing a vintage piece is cool, hearing about the history or backstory makes it more like a "museum" experience - especially for those of us who are far and away from conventions or art shows.
I love a good description. I want to know why they bought the page/image. You might enjoy my descriptions. I claim that they are the best on the CAF. Here's an example.
