  1. Picked this one up a couple years ago. A rare digest...
  2. A rare Baker romance cover outside of St. John:
  3. I've been going through my collection and changing the backing boards to Gerber after I've heard how regular backing boards can actually cause more harm than good. I'm glad I am changing these out because then hopefully it will be a one time change. So, I'll be scanning some more and posting some images as I go along. I picked this one up from Michael a couple years back.
  4. Are you the eBayer that won this copy for four hundred and some-odd dollars? If so, nice score. I've never seen a higher grade copy. Yes I'm the one. Paid more than I budgeted for. Now the question is who was the under-bidder? Is (s)he here on the boards? Wasn't me, but it sure does sound like someone who was serious about having a copy.
  5. Nice copy!! I know you've been looking for this copy for a long time. (thumbs u My very favorite cover Keep em coming...great stuff
  6. The girl in this cover looks like there was some kind of influence from a source. Maybe a fashion magazine or movie star? I was thinking the dress is very southern belle, kind of like "Scarlet O'hara".
  7. How about some cool covers... It's really hard to pick favorite covers since there are so many. This is one of many of my favorite covers. Baker was able to capture the kind of essence of the characters. The blond (Gloria) in her body language and demeanor is certainly cast as the innocent girl and Karen is totally the risk taker, wrong side of tracks influences. This reminds me of a Sandy/Rizzo relationship. But, I know this was way before this. She even reminds me a little of Sandra Dee but again Sandra Dee wasn't popular until the very late 50's.
  8. That's really cool. If you open the other boxes, please show us pictures of the other books.
  9. Also, Matt worked on a children's illustration book on Cinderella along with Alex Blum and Ruth Roche. Here's an interior shot. I think he certainly worked on the "fairy godmother".
  10. I've shown this one before but in case some of you missed it..
  11. How about some more Baker illustrations? His illustration work is just as phenomenal as his comic work. I've been seeking his illustration work out for a few years and it's even more difficult to find than some of his comic work. Here's Baker's take on this cover for Rage For Men (or maybe vice versa?). I think the only reason he didn't get the covers of some of these men's magazines is because he worked in pencils/charcoals. Matt's nephew still has the original to this beautiful illustration. I hope in the upcoming Baker book they show some detailed shots of this this piece. The image below is from the internal magazine shot and not an image of the original.
  12. Thanks, got it. bb Great glad you got it! You got it at a great price!
  13. Not too badly priced TLP11 http://cgi.ebay.com/TRUE-LOVE-PICTORIAL-11-1954-MATT-BAKER-HEADLIGHT-COVER_W0QQitemZ320665912528QQcategoryZ3973QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7480980071818704468#ht_1864wt_1075
  14. Nice splashes, thanks for sharing
  15. Which one is that from? I haven't seen it before. Man's Exploits
  16. I haven't bought anything too great lately. It's difficult to find the last handful or so that I need to complete the St. John run. Here's a pretty cool illustration from a men's magazine...
  17. I just realized that this cover to LB Cole reminds me of Klimt, "The Kiss".
  18. What a great report thanks for sharing this knowledge. I'm really going to have to change out some of my backing boards!
  19. The original art for this is on ebay right now, seems like a pretty decent price for a whole story. http://cgi.ebay.com/Al-Avison-True-Bride-To-Be-Romances-16-/290520774718?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a463383e#ht_500wt_922
  20. Nice TR32. Did you pick it up at NYCC? Nice pickup. I didn't see too much in the way of Baker romance at the convention. Harley had some things, but he always does.
  21. Yes, I've been looking for a decent copy for awhile. This one rarely comes around. The TLP11 was also pretty nice too.
  22. New Addition Also, if anyone is interested in Lorna Doone OA, I have a couple of pieces up for sale in the OA section. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4331867#Post4331867
