Richard Rae back in the news. Selling everything.

This is one of the MANY tales of Richards antics that are out there... https://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/05/30/the-jack-kirby-and-mike-royer-original-art-that-isnt/ -
CLINK Winter Featured Auction Ends Mar 5th
Khazano replied to jjonahjameson11's topic in Original Comic Art
As a Bagely USM collector this final number shocked me. The only thing I can think is Miles is riding a high wave off the Into the Spider-Verse movie and this being marketed as a page where he crosses over into the main Marvel U caught the eyes of speculators. That J. Scott Campbell was originally priced at 5k or 6k many moons ago by the artist. Also, JSC covers tend to hit 10k+ when theres a pretty lady on the cover. Not so much dudes. -

The OFFICIAL "This week in your ORIGINAL ART collection?"
Khazano replied to mister_not_so_nice's topic in Original Comic Art
https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=82451 Picked up some nice (and fresh) Scott Kolins Flash pages from the Zoom run this weekend at a local con! -
Oh I'll play. Ed / Loeb's run was one of the runs that got me back into comics in the early 2000s. This was the first book I ever actually read with Bizzaro in it too.
-
Yes they are. You gotta tell us after taking us this far through your odyssey! Glad it's back. Figured he'd cave to the pressure.

Its more the combination of youth + fast food, which was a relatively new job too. He hasnt even had time to squirrel the money away. I wasnt making great money in 2006 when at age 24 I dropped 4k on a cover. (The most Id ever spent on a singular piece at that time by a mile.) But I had a track record of a few years in this hobby under my belt, a pile of art that lucky matured nicely, and I was damn good at playing the flipping game. So I made due and knew what I was doing. This guy is literally someone straight outta left field without a drawing to his name. The only way I can see him affording this, is because he sells a fair bit of books online that he gets signed at cons. I guess it is possible if over the last few years he was REALLY disciplined to save up the dough... But n'ah... My opinion after a deep dive into his FB. (Cause clearly, who needs to work right now? ) This is some dumb kid, who got a hairbrained idea, and thought he could pull off the hustle of his life. The law should hopefully put enough fear into him to do the right thing.

According to his FB page, the buyer is a kid (looks very early 20s) who recently started working at In and Out Burger. That doesnt really strike me as the type of collector buying $4k+ Del Otto paintings...

Any artist you prefer pencils only, no ink?
Khazano replied to Blastaar's topic in Original Comic Art
Jae Lee by a mile. IMO inks ruin those beautiful lush pencils he does. -
Ive gotten silly high balls offers from people like that. I dont even respond with my usual "nope". It screams scam. They're out there as his post illustrates. Be careful people. Man I miss the good ol days of money orders and bidpay.com

ORIGINAL ART TO SELL ,COMIC CONNECT OR COMICLINK?
Khazano replied to zeezee's topic in Original Comic Art
Comiclink is great in terms of their premium auctions. Ive had stuff hammer for over what my asking price on CAF was, even after pieces those pieces had been sitting there for ages. And my returns usually land within the spectrum of what I expect. The Comiclink Focus auctions are a little more shaky however, and Id consider that place a buyers market. Heritage will get you a better return. The fact that you can track, be notified via text/email, and the real live auction at the very end just trumps whatever CC or CL does. But between their seller fees, and the buyers premium, they can gobble up to 30% of your final selling price. -

Best of 2018: BUDGET EDITION - Now Open for Entries and Voting!
Khazano replied to BCarter27's topic in Original Comic Art
From Harley's first DC appearance. Batman: Harley Quinn (1999) --- This is one of those situations where Im pretty sure the art dealer I got this from had no idea what he had. -
I think the price was reflective of it being the cover to very memorable story from the early 2000s, and not so much the actual image itself.
