  1. As points of reference...

A copy with a chunk missing out of the bottom sold for $7,977 last September: LINK

A CGC Universal 0.5 missing back cover sold for $8,427 in February: LINK

The copy on Comic Link presents better than the Sparkle City copy, so 9K doesn't seem out of bounds at all.

  2. CGC 0.5 Universal copy of Batman #1 was recently listed on Comic Link:

    LINK

Highest offer so far is 9K, which seems to be in-line with FMV considering the Sparkle City copy recently sold for $8,427 but didn't present as nicely as this one.

  3. Congratulations on a fantastic pick-up. :applause:

    *3rd app. of Captain America.

*2nd app. of the Red Skull.

    *Classic Schomburg cover.

*Stan Lee's first work for Timely (Marvel).

IMO...one of the very best Timely books out there. (thumbs u

  4. I happen to own both these books, in grades that puts them at about equal market value. I can tell you personally my Turtles 1 is one of only 2 untouchables in my collection (barring upgrade), while I could foresee myself selling the AF15 some day. I think the 9.6 Turtles 1 will be worth more than the 4.0 AF15 in 10 years, but maybe not in 50 years. There are just so few of that book available, especially at that grade or higher. I can always buy an AF15 if I had the cash, but there have been times in the recent past where finding a 9.6 Turtles 1 hasn't been possible. Basically, most folks who were 10 years old in the 60s and 70s are going to take the AF15 every time, and kids from the 80s and 90s are going to take the Turtles. We won't know what the milennial kids will do until they have the money to do it, but my money would be on the Turtles long term (though AF15 is certainly a safe investment).

I was 10 years old in the 1990's and there's no question which book I'd enjoy more...

AF #15 eights days a week.

  5. How about a different take...ranked in terms of both historical importance and modern relevance. This was off the top of my head, and I'd probably change it depending on the day of the week.

    1) Amazing Fantasy #15

First app. of Marvel's flagship character.

    2) Fantastic Four #1

The birth of Stan Lee's Marvel Universe.

    3) Amazing Spider-Man #1

First Marvel-age crossover, first issue of flagship character's solo title, milestone for continuity.

    4) X-Men #1

First app. of Marvel's most popular team. Seven X-Men brand films have followed.

    5) Tales of Suspense #39

First app. of a Hollywood blockbuster character. Iron Man 3 out-performed Man of Steel at the box office.

    6) Avengers #1

First app. of a team featured in the third highest grossing film in history.

    7) Incredible Hulk #1

First app. of an iconic Marvel character.

    8) Avengers #4

Return of Captain America, another milestone for Marvel Universe continuity.

    9) Journey Into Mystery #83

First app. of increasingly-popular Marvel character.

    10) Fantastic Four #5

First app. of arguably, Marvel's most iconic villain.

  6. I enjoyed all 3 immensely.

Probably arkham city followed by asylum then origins. Though all 3 are top notch.

    Agreed.

All three are very good for different reasons.

    IMO...

Arkham Asylum had the best atmosphere.

Arkham City had the best gameplay.

Arkham City had the best story.

  7. What is everyone's opinion on the Bat 1 bound volume on clink?

It's a really cool item for sure. I prefer slabbed, individual books over bound volumes.

But the Batman #1 front cover within the bound value is vibrant and the PQ looks nice. If I owned a bound volume like this, I'd probably get more enjoyment if the books were separated and slabbed individually.

The 4.0 copy on CL is now up to 48K.

  10. Thank you! I wanted to grab the Joker splash page, but it went for a little more than I wanted to pay. I figured the first (out of disguise) Catwoman appearance would be an awesome addition instead.

I remember when the page came up for auction on eBay. I won the Joker splash page, but have since sold it. The PQ of the slabbed pages that were offered for sale was impressive. Though it's not a complete book, I really enjoy getting to look at the classic artwork. Some of the most historic images came from that book. (thumbs u

  11.

Catwoman is far from a plot device. She's an iconic, instantly identifiable, indespensible part of the Batman lore. She is as important to Batman as any other villain sans the Joker.

She may be important to Batman lore, but she's not more important to Batman lore than Lex Luthor (or even Lois Lane) is to Superman lore. But, really, that's beside the point. My focus is on her import to popular culture. We all know what Lex Luthor stands for. He's short hand for an archetype. What on earth does Catwoman stand for? She's just yet another spin on the bad girl (possibly with a heart of gold) that the hero might be able to redeem. It's a very common plot device. And she doesn't define it in the public's mind.

Some of Luthor's characteristics were already present in other characters prior -- for instance, Sivana was a mad scientist before Luthor was in the 1940's and the Kingpin was an affluent, organizer of crime in the 1960's before Luthor went corporate.

But to label Catwoman as nothing more than a bad girl with a possible heart of gold is no better than labeling Luthor was an affluent, corrupt businessman who exists as a plot device as a mental foil for Superman's brawn.

There is a lot more to both characters.
