I can't believe somebody bought the bound edition and ripped it apart to create this monstrosity just to try to make a couple bucks. Wait, maybe I can actually.
-J.
Whether it be to for the purpose of sale or for the purpose of separating the copy of Batman #1 from the rest of the pack, I can see a number of reasons for doing so. While bound-volumes are cool, and often a cool piece of history, you can't enjoy them the same way you could a slabbed book. Frequent handling (flipping through pages) is not "good" for paper aged over seven decades. But even beyond the preservation factors, slabbing the book individually is great for presentation.
From a content standpoint, Batman #1 is very different from subsequent issues. The psychological depth and darkness of the Joker is greatly reduced by the time of Batman #2 -- let alone following issues. So beyond the obvious appeal of it being a "No. 1" with historical first appearances, Batman #1 is simply different in both tone and content from the rest of the run.
Hence, there is good reason to remove it from a bound-volume to appreciate it individually. (thumbs u

My humble offering just arrived...
I've often referred to this as the "Arkham Asylum" cover. If you've played the video game, you'll get that vibe. Congrats. (thumbs u

There is a Batman #1 CGC Restored 0.5, missing back cover, copy in CL's focused auction ending in a little less than two days.
It's currently at $4,095. Any guesses as to how much it will close for?
-
it's certainly a closer race than Tec 29/Bat 1.Since Action #7 has seen such growth, do you think it will eventually surpass Superman #1 in value?Action #7's do appear tougher to come by.
I don't think so. Especially the higher up you go grade wise. It's still superman 1 vs 2nd superman cover. But it is definitely nipping on its heels
In lower grades a better value comparison would be tec31/bat 1
Even taking rarity into account, I doubt Tec #31 will be as close to Batman #1 value-wise a decade down the road. Incredible, iconic cover without question but much like you said in respects to Superman #1/Action #7 -- the "No. 1" offers so much more.
I could be wrong as anything could happen, but I don't see Action #7 and Tec #31 remaining on the same playing field in the long run. Reprints are more readily available, in digital format now and there is absolutely no comparison between the two groups story-wise.
Hollywood has brought to life the importance and value of storytelling within the genre. I expect historical significance, major first appearences and first issues of iconic titles to trump second cover appearences, eventually, by a considerable margin.
Over the past few years, many copies of Tec 31 , grade for grade, have outsold $ vs batman 1. Only in the last year or so has batman 1 likely retaken the lead across all grades
Your list for 2.0's gave Tec #31 the slight edge (30-35K) vs. Batman #1 (30K).
Obviously prices have been strong for Batman #1 of late. Both books are incredible, I'm just saying that as time goes on, I suspect Superman #1 and Batman #1 to pull away from their second cover app./classic cover app. counterparts.

Hey Rick,
I asked this same question about a year ago, so lets see where things stand in 2014.
What do you consider to be the top-ten most valuable GA books, in CGC Universal 2.0, all in similar condition with similar eye appeal?
Can you give us your list, and current FMV for each?

Ron bought a big time book from me and paid immediately with no hassle, and fantastic communication every step of the way.

first off, this thread needs a major bump. Second, here's my new beater grail.

If it's complete, last GPA sale was $3050.
If I'm not mistaken a .5 recently sold on comic link for a hair under $4k. They do not report to GPA.
-J.
Yep. Sold for $3,905.

I can see both sides of the coin pertaining to autographed books.
To me, beyond the signature is the fact that Stan Lee himself held that book. While Lee has signed a lot of books, he certainly hasn't touched every AF #15. Knowing that you own a copy that Stan himself touched is pretty cool IMHO.

Welcome and congrats
Thanks bud. Same to you. (thumbs u

Fantastic addition. Congrats.

What is the going rate for coverless examples?

Tec #33 is on another stratosphere, content-wise, compared to all it's other Pre-Robin Tec contemporaries (sans #27). Covers go in and out of vogue, and #33 has a pretty cool cover in its own right. Content vs. content, it blows 29,31 and 35 out of the water.
Beautiful pick-up. Congrats!

It's not often that you see an Action #13 on eBay...

I think it proves the price of admission to the Bat 1 Club is 10k at minimum.
That seems to be the direction the market is headed, if it hasn't reached that point already.
Throw out the entry .5 and the uber high grades, 8.5 higher, in the middle area, looks about 14K a point, less if the book is skanky, and more, if the book has great eye appeal, IMHO
Agreed. Entry-level 0.5's are approaching 10K per-ticket, and higher graded copies do not come cheap.
In retrospect, I think the 9.2 auctioned off by Heritage was a bargain at $567,625.
It was an absolutely beautiful copy.
