Count the ACTUAL full colour pages? What other types of full colour pages are there Andy? Are some pretending?
At the time the majority of Australian comics were still B&W but some had "colour pages" that were black, white and red, like some
pommyUK books. -

Though slightly less educational.

looks like these comics were made with newsprint?
Yep. Most 1940s and 50s Australian comics were printed without specialised cover stock. The paper stock on this one is particularly poor. The same printer did the Australian issues of Piracy, and I'm yet to see one of those that hasn't aged badly.

CGC designate WDC&S #24 as a bondage cover!

"Each page contains 2 complete pages of comics."
So is that why it looks extra wide--because there are literally two pages printed side by side on each page, so four pages across when you open the book?
That's right. And the book is large so the double pages aren't too small. It measures 22 x 30 cm (8.75 x 12 inches).

If I ask another question, will you promise to come back in 2026 with an answer Andy?
I can't promise 2026, but probably this millennium.

Is this an original AUS story?
No, like all the Jane comics, it's a collection of comic strips originally published in the UK. Contents are black and white. For background on the source material see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_(comic_strip)

That's a thing of beauty. Is there a 'proper' issue 34 as well, in the regular issue run? Or is this one of those weirdy 'starts at #33' numbering scenarios?
Ha. As I posted this I was thinking it was the kind of obscure variant stuff Marwood would like.
There was a change of publisher after #32. The publisher of this one was responsible for the other 'multiple price variant' titles.

looks more like a book than a comic but i like the artwork either way !
The US edition had a photo cover. This cover is adapted from an interior panel, so the whole comic is drawn in that style.

Brilliant covers on some of these Andy
I love this series. The interior art is pretty sketchy, but in a way I really don't mind. The artist is Virgil Reilly, who was very accomplished - his comic work is the only thing he didn't sign, and I think he tossed it off pretty casually.

what is picto fiction ?
Large blocks of text with illustrations - a bit like story books for kids, but very much not for kids. It was an attempt to avoid the comics code.

I think it was a Mickey Mouse Club spin-off TV show. There are a bunch of these in the Dell Four Color series too. They aren't great reading!

Great, now I have the Moonlight Sonata going through my head, with a Dudley Moore and Peter Cooke voice over. Thanks Steve.

I had a few Harveys from around that vintage when I was a kid, all bought in Australia. I tired of them pretty quickly and they are long gone, but I now wonder which price variants they were. I know I wouldn't have been paying 20c for Wendy or Casper when Uncle Scrooge or WDC could be had for 15c!

Oh, that artwork is atrocious. There are also Australian romance comics up (or down!) to that level.

So what was the secret? Was it that the back of her hand had a weird cross hatching tattoo that was actually a tong sign?

The title for this one has me scratching my head. Just what is going to happen "for Mother's sake"?
