  1. That's a unique interpretation of the tier chart. Pretty funny actually. It's going into the vault for a future tease.
  2. Maybe I'm just seeing things because I just came from another thread where a beat up 1.0 AF15 was trimmed. The top edge of this book looks very straight. Shouldn't there be some overhang ?
  3. Unless it is really obvious, you can't judge a trim by comparison to other copies. Join the club whose AF15 have come back restored. Happened to me many years ago. It puts you in a state of shock, you are obviously in denial. However, it is what it is. At least you got the signature, that will help with the value and presentation.
  4. I was confused by this conversation also. I didn't see your question but I saw the replies. You wanted to remedy a restored, trimmed book by restoring it again ?
  5. There's no 'advantage' to value tier. In fact, it has the slowest turnaround time of all. I feel the tiers are actually pretty straightforward if you don't try to over analyze them. You have a book 1975 - present, submit it in Modern. Anything older, use the appropriate tier based on value. That's it.
  6. You wouldn't. Absolutely no reason to do that.
  7. You know what, I believe he thinks the Wakthru tier literally means you must 'walk' the book up to them, cannot be mailed.
  8. This is from the website. No reference to a minimum or charging you differently for a Modern submission @ 15 books.
  9. Where do you see that they charge you more with 15 books in the Modern tier? That is not true.
  10. Yes, 3K is max value on an Express Tier. No argument there. I disagreed with this comment you made about the requirement of dropping it off in person. 'It was my understanding that any book worth more than $3000 has to be dropped off with CGC, either at their Sarasota location or at a comic book convention at which they are in attendance. Am I incorrect?
  11. I think you mean it's only $20 per book in the Modern tier. Value tier costs 27.00 per book, Modern costs 20.00 . Modern has a cutoff date of 1975. Not sure what you are having trouble understanding = not sure what your question is ?
  12. I believe you said you were going to go the BIN on E-Bay route for your better stuff, getting prices from GoCollect. IMO, this is the worst approach for your 'better' stuff. In any case, it's your stuff, your call, no problem.
  13. IN my experience, they usually send the certs back but not always, no entitlement. A photocopy should be fine.
  14. It could be glare from the bag but I am seeing a staple tear and some long spine ticks lower part of the spine. Based on that alone, I think 9.2 may be the highest. It really is a useless endeavor trying to grade a blurry pic, front cover only, in the bag.
  15. PLease don't take offense from my comment. This seems to happen a lot here and it can get frustrating. Why did you come here asking for advice when you had your mind already set on what you wanted to do ? You ackowledge our suggestions but then say 'Thanks but I'm going to do it my way'. You are already making a rookie mistake by utilizing GoCollect.com for your valuations. Again, I wish you good luck but no more advice from me here.
  16. Good books with fair prices will sell here, on the Boards. If you choose to put your books in auction on E-Bay, okay, I can understand that. However, If you choose to put your books on E-Bay with a BIN, I don't understand why you don't try the Boards first. No fees on the Boards and you are participating in a community. No such thing as retracting bids on the Boards, E-Bay, happens all the time.
  17. I agree it needs a dry clean. What do you see that a press would improve the grade from 4.5 to maybe 6.0 ? I would send it to CCS for an evaluation. Let them decide if the book can 1) handle the press 2) would improve with a press.
  18. Does he sell his pressing services ? I don't understand why the presser himself didn't see the 'canvassing'. The fact that he sent them in for grading, with the flaw, doesn't say much about his skills, or his eyesight.
  19. I think that guy recomending pressing with a clothes iron mentioned using Teflon. I think he was challenged on it but said it works just fine. I hope the guy from this thread only works on his own books. If he is selling his services, he should be outted.
  20. So a DIY presser has enabled a new defect. CGC should name it after him ! Hope you are not having him press your books.
  21. Lots of chipping with a dangiing 'chad' but the tear holds it down for me. If the Back cover pencil marks clean up I can see this as high as 5.0. Right now, I am at 4.5 . No big pieces missing, no stains, nice book.
  22. I agree with your comments but what did happen ? I'm assuming you don't know either. Now we will never get to nominate that thread for best name.
  23. The top copy has a lot of hard, color breaking creases. That long diagonal crease is also color breaking. A press may smooth it out, but will not improve the grade. The second copy presents better but as soon as you see the tape pull, that's all you can stare it. I agree with the LIon's evaluation above. The first copy is NOT an improvement. I would try and return it. Tell them you compared it to your existing copy and you don't like it. If they are a good LCS, they will oblige. Sorry.
  24. Unfortunately, the late Bronze/Copper era probably has the least value. However, collectors from this era are all trying to unload their books expecting big money. I don't even think my LCS wants them anymore, too much product. I would think the only books from this era worth getting slabbed are the keys. Maybe some non keys if they are slam dunk 9.8's, I'm talking no visible flaws at all. If you do submit to CGC, becoma a member so you can get the discount, and utilize the prescreen service. 50 seems to be the age where collectors decide to unload. Then at 60 you start to regret it.
