It does seem odd that this has happened to you twice. I would have hoped that if Receiving had an 'accident' they would have contacted you. I suspect the graders were not notified of any 'accident' and the books were detached when graded. UNfortunately, I don't think they take a picture of the book when received. Call tomorrow and let us know what they advise. Again, good luck !

Okay, when you contact CGC, mention the fact that you have pictures and you used oversized bags and boards and this has happened twice. I would call tomorrow, they are much better at answering the phone than answering E-Mail. They will probably have you send pictures to them but call first. Good luck. It's possible they can oblige you with some store credit. Just something to show good faith.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
Bomber-Bob replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
This has been discussed before for Vintage books and usually CR/OW precludes a book from getting a 9.8. Not impossible, I've seen a few, but not often. DId you ever see a Modern get a CR/OW, slabbed, and if so what was the grade ? -
BTW, you originally asked if this has happened to others. Yes, it has happened but not often. I've only seen it mentioned on the Boards a couple times. Please recognize this sucks and I do feel bad for you. I'm just not sure they will offer any kind of compensation. I do think you should at least bring it up to them.

Thanks for the reply. First a side comment, depending on the condition, it is not always prudent to press an older GA book. The safest thing to do is to send it to CCS for a review. They will decide if 1) the book is safe to press and 2) whether the press will improve the grade. If you submit it for a review and the cover winds up detached, you do have recourse. Now getting back to your situation, in both cases the detachment is mentioned in the notes. This indicates they received the book with the cover detached. This is obviously a 'gray area', it can't be verified where the detachment happened. I certainly agree you should bring this up with them but it may be difficult for them to accept the blame. I would be very interesting in seeing a pic of both books.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

Really ? If so, I'm assuming it would be newspaper stock and stored in a smoker's environment. I'd be curious to see a graded copy with CR/OW. -

It's cool. I don't even follow Moderns so I shouldn't be participating here anyway. As Paperheart pointed out, there are no CR/OW Moderns ! -

You're right, I forgot we are in a Modern thread !!! -
It sure looks detached to me, at least detached from the back cover. You can see the white of the spine, right there by the staple. Even though you are asking us to grade this book without a pic of anything more than a tiny area, I think the book will be graded as a Qualified 8.5 or a Universal 7.0, ballpark.

I am a White Page Junkie, no agenda, just my preferance. If you own a CR/OW and I own the same copy in White, my copy is better !!!! -
Restored Grade

I think you should ask them for an explanation of their standards ! Good luck with that ! -

I agree, it sure seems like Jaydog usually has an agenda. -
Dot the I's (ink on cover)
Bomber-Bob replied to Myparentsbasement's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I agree, there is no benefit to get this book restored. -
I really think it is time that you start doing your own research. Continually asking us to evaluate prices for you is not our job. Besides looking at Sold prices on E-Bay, there are a number of services available to price books for a nominal fee.

Any luck disputing grades?
Bomber-Bob replied to volsspongebob's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I agreee with you, however, if a book is graded 9.2 with a bend referenced in the notes, it is pretty obious this was NOT a grading error. Submitting, as is, for a 'redo' will not accomplish anything. See my comments below, I can clearly see the bend. This book would need to be pressed again and regraded. IMO, it's not worth the expense. -

I think I see the bend and it looks pretty obvious to me. The notes say, and I concur, it is on the BC LEFT. You are showing us a closeup of the Back Cover spine area on the right. It may have been a poor job of pressing or it got damaged in shipping. Before you send it back to CGC, you need to get it properly pressed. Just remember, if you send it back to CGC there will be no freebies. You will be charged for a regrade. I have no idea about the valuation on this book but it doesn't seem worth the expense and effort. -
Orland Park (Chicago suburb) Comic Con - 4/26 - 4/28
Bomber-Bob replied to manetteska's topic in Comic Events
Thanks for the reply. I think you are correct, that the 35.00 is for 3 days which includes Friday. However, can you just show up on Friday and pay 20.00 for the one night is the question. It's disappointing that the website is this ambiguous. I know the show is still a couple months away so maybe they are still in a planning stage. I hope they come on the Boards and advertise a little. -
I just received two Action Comics from Randy's recent sales thread, one slabbed and one raw. Randy did an excellent job of packaging, double boxed Priority mail. I loved the books, very fresh looking for books from the 1950's. Overall, this was a great transaction from a first rate seller. I highly recommend Randy.
