  1. That TOS #4 is a really tough book to find. I was going to chase it but I have a raw copy already. Great pickups, all around !
  2. One of my favorite covers. This is a really fresh looking copy. I'm seeing a classic 8.5 here. It has the eye appeal of a 9.0 but the bottom, right hand corner crease will hold it to 8.5 . Nice book !
  3. You may be right. I think we were all looking at the mis-wrap' on the spine, however, if you look closely at the bottom edge of Hector's copy, it looks miscut. I'm beginning to see the difference. I am learning something here.
  4. Maybe you are on to something. I don't know but maybe there is a difference.
  5. I know. I suspect, if this book is otherwise without flaws, you will get a 9.6 on a resub. You may have simply been unlucky. All I am saying is one example does not prove anything.
  6. Guys, look at this batch from above. The one example has a mis-wrap, top row far right, and still got a 9.8 . Proving CGC is still giving 9.8's with a mis-wrap.
  7. First off, I think they try to make the grader's notes have a little more content these days, so there is 'something' to purchase. As stated, I suspect the mis-wrap was the tilting factor, hence it was mentioned. I just don't think we should be up in arms over one example of a 9.6 with mis-wrap. We all know grading is subjective and there are a lot of factors in play. I really think all is well and nothing has changed in the 'rules'.
  8. Thanks. Yes, the uber graded PHM sold very well but it's just pretty obvious from Board Sales threads and pricing in general that PCH and GA is 'hot'. I think some of the PHM money is now going in that direction. The genres do have a common thread of 'cool' covers.
  9. Everyone is assuming there was absolutely nothing else wrong with Hector's copy and it was graded 9.6 solely on the mis-wrap. Maybe that is not true, even if it was the only thing mentioned in the notes. We all know not everything is noted. Perhaps there was a small something, putting it on the fence of 9.6/9.8, and the mis-wrap tilted it to 9.6 . I do not think, going forward, we will see all mis-wraps get 9.6 . I just don't. No 'rule' changes here.
  10. This will be cracked out upon it's arrival. Love old label books.
  11. Got this book last night for a reasonable price. I suspect the interest in Pre-Hero is waning. Taking it's place is now PCH.
  12. I suspect I was only able to get this FANTUCCHIO pedigree copy because of a 9.6 in the same auction.
  13. They are going to say Casey's book was 9.9 otherwise. I know the Boards have raised my awareness of miscuts with many arguing CGC should take it into consideration more. Personally, I don't like to see allowances for production flaws on any level. A crease is a crease, a chip is a chip, no matter how it happened.
  14. I really like the colors on this book. While I am also in the 6.5 camp and think 7.0 is a generous grade I think I know why. The biggest problem on this book is the upper left corner and your eye catches it right away. With that corner, 6.5 would seem tops but the rest of the book is really nice. Indeed, Joey did some nice work here. I bet he saw the estimated grades from us and took it as a challenge ! In any case, nice book. Congrats.
  15. Just don't make the situation worse by messing with the book. Don't try to remove it, don't clean it, and be very careful if you choose to press. I think it will have an impact on the grade, more so in higher grades. As Joey said, it depends on the size and ink used. It also depends on location and how neat it looks. The graders will react to a big, fugly signature staring you in the face. Hopefully, these are pretty clean.
  16. @kclaw, the case is fine. The buyer either has OCD or buyer's remorse. Ridiculous.
  17. Well, then you have a restored book, Sorry. See the dots on the inside of the FC near the spine, running vertical. Somebody touched up the whole spine. If you just bought this book, try and get your money back. Since there is Color Touch there may also be trimming, which is even worse. Sorry but this is not good.
  18. Either those are holes on the Front Cover or color touch that has bled through. I also see a stain at the top of the spine. I'll pend an opinion on grade until we learn about the possible color touch.
  19. Show some pics here so we can give our opinion. Opening up on the sides is no big deal = not a sign of tampering. Also, what does he mean by stress marks. It's either cracked or not cracked, the term 'stressed' does not apply to a slab.
  20. Well, it's lower grade already. There is a big bottom right corner crease, an awfully placed tape stain, another stain over the Comics Code box, marvel chipping, numerous spine creases, etc. The tracing is a big deal but in light of all these other problems, it won't matter too much. You are in the 4.0 range here unless there are other problems, interior, Back Cover, in which case it may be worse.
  21. Got this last night in the Sunday Heritage auction. With Vampi #1 heating up so much, the #2 was a relative bargain.....
  22. At first glance it looked 7.0 but the flaws kept adding up. IMO, the tear on the staple is especially bad and pushes it below 6.0 . 5.5 sounds about right.
  23. Remember fingerprints contain oil. Dry cleaning is usually done in the white areas only as it may remove some color. So to answer your question, maybe.
  24. Welcome to the Boards. A common Newbie mistake is to not do a little searching before asking a redundant question. Look at this thread.
