ComicLink 2018 Show 'em if you got 'em
Bomber-Bob replied to DavidTheDavid's topic in Comics General
I agree, I would send it in to be corrected. While a few label errors are cool or unique, this one is neither. Love the book though ! -

Love seeing all the Sensation books. Here's my whole WW sensation collection. Just too hard to find. -
The Wonder Woman all the Time thread
Bomber-Bob replied to G.A.tor's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Don't get me wrong, this is a gorgeous book, Very strong colors and freshness. However, that is some soft grading by CGC. Look at the upper left corner. A very soft, fuzzy corner, a color breaking spine tic, followed by color rub. In the past, that color rub alone would keep it at 9.0 . -
First off, it's not easy ! As Adamantum has stated above, definitely avoid a flash. You need to angle the book, or the camera, just a bit. It's tough to totally eliminate all glare but maybe you can reduce it to a small, isolated spot. I try to 'move' the spot to the label area, not on the book itself.

I don't think it's fair of you to call us belligerent. I don't believe in giving an answer unless I know the answer. You have given us nothing to work with here. You have the book in hand, how can we tell from that terrible blurry picture you supplied about the severity of the resto ? It would help if you had the notes but it's obvious you don't want to pay for the notes. CGC does not quantify the amount of resto on the label. Color Touch could mean one spot or many hits all over the book. It could be all along the spine. Note the label says tear seals, as in plural. You keep referencing the tear seal, as if there is only one when it's actually more than one. For all we know everyone of those corner creases has been sealed. Without knowing the details, how can we give you an answer. You want a guess? Here's a guess, your book is worth three fifty.

There is data but it's not comparing apples to apples. You would need data specific to C-1, with specifically the same resto. If GPA has a 4.0 C-1 with glue on spine is that the same equivalent value as CT and tear seals ? For me it's not. I think most buyers of resto books are looking for resto removal candidates. Even comparing CT to CT data is difficult because not all CT is created equal. Of course, the OP wants all the information from us for free, doesn't even want to spend a few bucks on the grader's notes so I agree with your inference on buying a subscription.

Why, anybody can buy the grader's notes ? We've gone full circle here with you still asking the same question. You are not getting any specific answers because we can't give it to you. If anybody does offer an answer, I guarantee you they are guessing. To truly ascertain value, put it in auction.

PGM ASM #129 (UPDATE - Grade is in!)
Bomber-Bob replied to LaxThanatos's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
CGC is so lenient on this book. I would grade it 8.5 but it may get the 9.0 . BTW, nobody mentioned it, but that top staple is really protruding. -
Sticker on the Cover
Bomber-Bob replied to pjray55's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I think you made the right decision to pass. With or without the sticker, it's not an attractive copy. Also, not worth the expense and effort of dealing with the sticker. -

You seem like a good, level headed guy. I'm glad you didn't take the criticism too personally. It's just that giving pressing advice is generally frowned upon here, mostly because our host has a pressing service. It's in poor taste to offer alternatives to their service. -

I think with the advent of the movies, shows like Big Bang, the popularity of cosplay, etc, many have a different attitude. Collecting comics is a geek thing and being a geek is now trendy. -
Incredible Hulk #181 - is it *that* red-hot?
Bomber-Bob replied to Getoutandstayout's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I've come to realize that one should never sell a hot book without having a backup copy first. It's the only way to stay in the game and not get seller's remorse. -

Agreed but guys like this are working on their own books and then putting them into the marketplace. Even complete hacks can get away with this forever. I don't think this guy is qualified to give advice on the subject. Look at his posts, he seems to contradict himself. In one post he says he is turning 8's into 9.6/9.8's. Then in another post he says he has never submitted a book. A few weeks ago he was asking us how to assign value to his comics and now he is an expert giving us advice. I'm just calling it as I see it. He is probably telling his Facebook friends how he so good he gives advice on the CGC Boards. -

Bomber-Bob replied to dcmannn's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I understand but the problem for me is they put their 'experiments' into the marketplace with no disclosure. If I need electrical work on my house, I call a licensed electrician. I don't call somebody that is just learning. In this guy's particular case, saying it's so easy his 9 year can do it, is just wrong. This is the same guy that was recently asking how to value his comics and now he is so good at pressing he is giving us advice. -

I believe you are wrong, to do the job correctly you need more skills than you or your 9 year old obviously have. I hope you are pressing for your own collection and do not put this stuff into the marketplace. -

Wow ! You never cease to amaze me with your collection. -
I have to ask how the miscommunication happened between you and the seller. If I knew I would be out of town, I would have contacted the seller to postpone shipment. You are very lucky you got your books.

Could this be pressed out?
Bomber-Bob replied to MGsimba77's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I'm just going to summarize what everybody else has already stated in the hope that you fully understand. The damage is quite clearly from SCS, damage that happened inside the slab, after the fact. It was not graded with this flaw. It probably happened during shipping. If the books was already a 9.6 and it now has this tear, I think you will very likely get a lower grade if resubmitted as oppossed to a 9.8 . This book will never get a 9.8 with a tear. If pressed, it is possible the book will remain a 9.6 but again, it will never get a 9.8 . I am sorry this happened to you. If you just got it, return it. There was a fairly recent post about a Hulk 181 with an identical situation. I hope you did not buy the same book.I think he bought it from Metropolis and they agreed to accept a return. -
Very true. I always say, all the good stuff is gone before they open the doors to the public. You can only hope to find something they missed. We have two big conventions a year in Chicago and I always used to go to setup day but I think I have given up, too frustrating. Too many others have the same idea. Last time, last year, I walked out with nothing in hand.
