  1. My first thought for this scenario would be Captain America 1. Much more energetic Kirby artwork, Hitler getting seven bells knocked out of him on the cover, and a great-looking, all-time classic super-hero design. But, having seen a high grade Marvel 1, the blue cover is very bright and attractive, and would really stand out if you saw it fresh on the newsstand. You'd be drawn to both of them. Overall, though, as Captain America is one of my favourite characters, easily his first appearance for me.
  2. +1 Minor character. My favourite, underrated, evil New God is Doctor Bedlam. More psychological, less action-oriented than Steppenwolf, though, I suppose.
  3. The story is decent, but the artwork is drek. You can see age taking its toll on Jack's pencilling with his 70s DC runs. I'm not a great fan of his work past the mid-sixties, when he shifted to a looser style partly due to eyesight issues, IIRC. A key story for the Fourth World Saga, nonetheless.
  4. At least New Gods 7 is one of Kirby's best Bronze Age comics and not total drek like many recently hyped books. Classic story.
  5. Interesting choice, but fits well with the version of Lara Croft in the rebooted series, that is, the last two games.
  6. I look at them and still think that the designs are excellent. My favourite is Action Comics with Nick Cardy artwork and the larger, mid-70s logo...
  7. Here's some early Barry Windsor-Smith artwork from the late 60s ; back covers of British Fantastic and Terrific comics...
  8. Did they make you eat that in hospital...? I heard the food was bad but... What's wrong with bubble and Squeak The way my Mother used to cook it I hope you didn't try the version they had for the Premier Inn breakfast. Horrible.
  9. I wondered why I got a PM about this very ordinary, easy-to-find issue.
  10. At first glance you'd never think that the cover is by Steranko, but I suppose Sinnott's inking dominates there?
  11. Nothing about the Ultimate Edition on Amazon UK’s website. Thanks for the info, Nick.
  12. Yeah, has anybody announced that the Blu Ray will be released on July 16, 2016 with both a PG-13 and R rating versions? It would be interesting to have a one-disc version similar to the X-Men : Days of Future Past Rogue Cut, which could be watched either as the cinema release or with the additional scenes seamlessly integrated.
  13. Probably. I'm one of the few who loved Sucker Punch. I'm another in this select group.
  14. It sounds as if the film has been as polarising as Sucker Punch was. I don't get to the cinema anymore, and so I'll treat myself to the Director's Cut Blu-ray.
  15. I'm waiting for the R-rated Director's Cut Blu-Ray. Judging from Nick's review, it should then be a 10 / 10 super-hero film. That's good enough for me.
  16. That episode always seems to get panned in reviews. I suspect that I enjoy it because I’ve read far too many Marvel Monster and Alien Invasion comics from the 50’s to early 60’s era.
  17. As a Quasar fan, this is an interesting tie-in story which features the original Marvel Boy...
  18. I could have written this myself. Couldn't agree more. A nice undercurrent of darkness and foreboding, a mad and paranoid Batman, an elegant Wonder Woman who (gasp!) doesn't sound American. Some good lines and nice fanboy moments. I like the tack they're taking. This makes it sound as though I'll enjoy the R-rated Director's Cut more. Waiting for the Blu-ray for me. Possibly tonally similar to Watchmen, then?
