So you want to fight?

Unfortunately, I no longer own this book. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I was a comic dealer at local shows and on eBay. I had a lot of great books pass through my hands (like Batman #1, many early GA superhero books and almost every Marvel SA key). This was when CGC was just several years old and key comics were MUCH less expensive than today. I know that I've had at least 10 copies of ASM #1 in various grades along with some coverless ones and a lot of single pages. At different times, I had CGC graded copies as high as CGC 7.0, 7.5 and 8.0. The 8.0 is pictured here. I actually sold it (for very little profit, of course ) because I was worried the rust on the staples would progress and stain the book. I'm now looking for the right opportunity to get another one, but I wish I had a DeLorean that could take me back to that time when copies were abundant and cheap compared to today. Looking forward to seeing your #1s.

I picked up another early MAD issue in preparation for Independence Day.

I meant to get back to you on this. Here's the recent price history from GPAnalysis for #1 and #2. The GPA subscription cost is worth it if you plan to buy expensive books because you will know exactly what to pay or bid for a book according to recent sale data.

I really didn't set out to do this, but I've amassed some pretty amazing Steve Canyon books as they became available (including 3 from The Promise Collection). I love the cover on #2.

Finally landed a 9.6 Conan #1 after searching for a while.

This is one of my favorite early DD covers.

I was able to add another early JLA issue to the collection. The bidding in the May CL auction for these early issues was intense.

Let's get this Spider-Man party started...from where it all began! Since I first saw it, I've always loved the AF #15 cover and of course the story. Over the years I've had unrestored copies in CGC 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5. The 1.5 was special because I was able to read an original raw copy before I sent it to CGC. I also had a really nice looking Susan Cicconi restored CGC 5.0. I was fortunate to win this AF #15 CGC 9.6 A-3 not too long ago. I love the near perfect look of the A-3 restoration and that it has not been trimmed. I know some people don't want restored books in their collections, but given the prices over the last several years, I've been on the lookout for some key books with great eye appeal at more "affordable" prices. Regardless of the condition of an AF #15, there aren't many comic covers that can compare with the introduction of THE AWESOME MIGHT OF...SPIDER-MAN!

Sounds like a plan. I have gaps in my ASM collection too, so it's no big deal when we can't post a picture. This will be fun.

It looks like we have some good momentum going here. Does anyone want to post daily pictures in order from Amazing Fantasy 15 to Amazing Spider-Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. to wherever we stop like on the Fantastic Four thread? I enjoy seeing all these covers and the books everyone has. We could also add in ASM annuals and early Spider-Man cross over covers chronologically to sharpen our math skills. Start of Friday, 6/14/24? Thoughts? It will take a while to get to this book in order, but I was happy to add this tough ASM annual 2 with a custom label to the collection.

Ah the classics...love them all. Your #1 has great eye appeal.

That's a really nice copy. The white areas of the cover look white. In my mind, that's where the rubber meets the road.

That's a beautiful copy! There aren't many opportunities these days to get low number Silver-Age books, especially ASM issues, in 9.8. 9.4s and 9.6s are tough enough to find and win. Congratulations!

#17 is also one of my favorites. I remember hanging out with my friend down the street and his younger brother. We would each bring out our own short box of prized comics and look through each box. His younger brother had a beat but complete #17 that I always tried to trade for with no success.
