  1. I was able to quickly grab this GL #76 that had been sitting unsold for a long time once I saw the bid jump for a similar copy in the CL auction last night. I'm very happy this one is centered with white pages.
  2. Those are both really nice! I was able to grab the Stan Lee SS #16. The bidding was strong for these SA gems.
  3. Here's my #59 and I picked up this sweet Stan Lee SS #16 in the CL auction last night.
  4. This beauty is the beginning of my early Detective collection. I know this will be a very slow (and expensive) process, but I'm looking forward to adding to it over time.
  5. From your Hulk profile picture, I don't know if I'll like you when you're angry, but look at these two spines! I'm waiting for upgrade opportunities at the right price with better centering.
  6. It's the scan. The light blue on the CGC label is washed out because of the bright light and it made the cover look whiter. The second picture shows the cover is actually a little more off-white, but even in the more natural light I would say the cover is still pretty white. Overall, I think I just posted a horrible picture the first time (which I didn't take as this book is imaged and stored in my PWCC Vault account). I'll have to ask them to take another picture of this one because usually their image quality is great. This also illustrates how different scans can affect our perception of what we're buying...an interesting case study.
  7. I forgot one category that is absolutely on fire...almost any Bronze Age issue from a popular title in CGC 9.8. Whenever I do some quick math, I come back to the conclusion that I could buy an entire run of Bronze books, or at least a big chunk, within a title I collect in 9.4 or 9.6 for the price of just one 9.8 book. I know some collectors are battling it out for top CGC Registry sets or just like to have top population books, but wow the final prices are unreal.
  8. I think it's only appropriate on a Friday evening to appreciate once again one of the greatest ASM covers of all time. I mean Steve Ditko just went wild here! He must have had some extra time on his hands that month for all those details.
  9. Recent CL win. I've never owned this book before in any grade. I think this one is a beauty with the nice centering, vibrant colors and white pages. I've always been ok with white from the back cover showing on the spine as long as it's not too "rolled over". I'm curious what others think about this type of spine as so many Bronze Age comics were printed like this.
  10. Here's an amazing Green Lantern Silver Age cover. My GL collection is slowly coming together, but it's been a challenge to find high grade early issues.
  11. I agree. I should have written: From CGC's perspective, I guess it's technically a condition over printing defect/eye appeal issue. I've tried to be more particular with centering/registration (except when I don't examine a book carefully enough, like this one) once I realized that I'll likely see the same issue down the road at some point if I'm just patient.
  12. This "crooked" book is a good example of what happens when there's only one picture in the listing, you don't look at it carefully and then you jump in to bid at the last second based on the grade...ha, ha. I need to establish an island of misfit books in my collection for the poor miswrapped ones. I've been surprised over the years to see so many miswrapped comics in 9.4, 9.6 and 9.8 holders. I guess it's technically a condition over printing defect/eye appeal issue.
  13. Wow! Thanks for sharing. I think I have a new appreciation for it seeing the artwork in black and white.
  14. My other FF issue in the 40s that I upgraded to recently.
  15. Finally...my turn. I really heat up in the 40s where I have a whopping 2 issues.
  16. I actually have created Silver Surfer (1968) and Doctor Strange (Silver Age) sets. You probably didn't see me (Lee Enterprises) because you have to look below your sets...ha, ha. You have some great, high grade sets going. You're right. These sets that pull together multiple titles are very cool. I would also vote for a Hulk Silver Age set.
  17. That's funny! An aspiring artist must have tried out his talents there. For a minute I thought there is a super secret variation that I'm missing.
  18. I might have been living under a rock with this one, but is that an actual variant or was the spider emblem drawn on the cover or case?
  19. My Action Comics collection has been a very slow building process, but I picked up this nice under 100 issue.
  20. I was fortunate to snag this TMNT #3 9.6 SS variant cover a while back.
  21. to another 9.0 spidey with no spider emblem x-over...
  22. Very nice! You actually get to read yours...ha, ha.
