  1. There's still some posting in the Copper Age forum that believe previews are first appearances. You still have a lot of work ahead of you, RMA.
  2. Quoted for posterity. Yeah. You may want to elaborate or explain that one better, CAK.
  3. Because I don't sell books that look like that to unsophisticated buyers as a raw 9.8. that's not what i am saying. put aside what you think that grade actually is. i see the spine ticks too and someone can make an informed decision. if you had a raw copy of that book you felt was a strong 9.8 candidate would you put it up for a $36 opening bid when that is practically what slabs are selling for? i'll give divad credit, he has cajones and sometimes it pays off. I might if I was absolutely sure it was a 9.8. Frankly, I would probably call it a 9.6 or better. It's been discussed ad nauseam here, he overgrades on some of his ebay listings. That's not cajones. That is either an inability to grade 9.8s or it is deliberately taking advantage of buyers who can't grade for themselves. You're the only thing ad nauseum around here. All you sell is manufactured plastic collectibles. You couldn't grade your way out the hole you live in. Uh, no offense. Next grading contest. You both enter and one comes out alive. I've already offered to select a number of divad's raw listings, have them sent to a neutral 3rd party and let CGC's grade be the judge of the results. I believe I offered to let the graded slabs be auctioned off for a charity of the winner's choice. He has declined. In fairness, RMA thinks this is not a fair test to divad as (I believe this was the objection) divad has everything to lose and nothing to gain. But, when someone comes touting extraordinary results from selling UHG raw books on ebay, many of which appear to be overgraded, I feel no compulsion to remain silent. To divad's credit, he provides reasonably large scans. I just think people buying his overgraded books (some but not all of his offerings) can't grade, don't pay attention or don't care. That doesn't make them any less overgraded. I recall those discussions and that's why I suggested a grading contest. They're not his books so there is less at stake. It would be fun.

  5. "The" term "item"...? It wasn't mentioned once. In the context, the singular was used 7 times, to refer to "item", "payment", and "friend/recipient." Not once was there anything about doing this multiple times. In fact, Roland went out of his way to explain..obliquely...that this wasn't allowed. It's not "purposefully vague" in any way. Swick worded the question to make it seem like he was asking about AN item, A purchase...and so, the reps said "yes, for A purchase, it's not a problem." If he had asked "can I do this any time I want, so long as it is my friend?" they would have said no. And personal payments?
  6. This is what you said....correct any part that I get wrong: What part of that is NOT a "blanket right"? You say that "you can send friendS (plural) personal funds for book(s) (plural)" Where is your qualification as to how many times this may be done? There isn't any. You've said "You can send friends personal funds for book(s)" And that's not what Paypal said at all. They said Swick could do it ONCE for AN item, A book, someTHING, THE item, A friend. This is the distinction. Paypal didn't say you can send friendS (plural) personal funds for book(s) (plural.) In other words, they were allowing a one time exception because they did not understand the question being asked of them as actually intended by the asker. Your "big catch" isn't relevant to that distinction, because it doesn't have anything to do with the payer and what is "allowed" for THEM. You're having a field day with the term "item" from the paypal messages. I interpret that as their straight forward definition of a transaction, as in the payer sends funds to the payee for an item. They're not saying you can only do it once, nor are they saying you can do it multiple times. It's purposefully vague. You interpret that as a one time allowance of the friends/family option for a single item. There was no clear language that defined an allowed number of transactions even if they did use the term "personal payments".
  7. I read the whole conversation. That's my summary of the facts as presented. I didn't say there is a "blanket right" as I immediately followed that up with associated precautions.
  8. So you can't ask for personal payment still. You can send friends personal funds for book(s) assuming that the payer is fine with waiving the purchase protection guaranteed by the goods and services method and that the payee is alright receiving personal funds. Big catch, payees who receive many (?) personal payments and those with a generally very active pp account that receive personal payments could have their account shut down as a result of this. However, like Sharon plans on doing for future charity payments, friends should probably inform paypal of impending personal transactions if they believe they're reaching this undefined threshold in either quantity of transactions or overall $. Paypal obviously wants their cut from as many transactions as possible, but they did establish the friends/family option for a reason and they have to respect its use to a point. That sums up what I've read here. This a good discussion minus the vitriol. RMA, you know I enjoy many of posts here greatly, but I'm confused by your choice to vilify Swick so severely because you find yourself on opposite sides of this discussion.
  9. (thumbs u Why yes, I do - buying? btw, prove it. Let's see the other sides. No. Just putting two and two together for you on who was messing with you on ebay about it. Here's another picture.
  10. Not to burst your bubble, but technically that's not an MJ "insert", but an MJ ad. It's not hardstock and not a full wrap CF, correct? I've found these in many later BA/CA books. Good try, bubble burster. It is the full wrap on hard glossy stock. The ad you're talking about, and I'm not 100% on this as I'm going from memory, has a prepaid envelope cut out on the first page of the ad. Still got that nm/m #25?
  11. At this point, there hasn't been too much movement on Valiant books. I think collections can still be put together on the cheap. I saved a lot of money buying when I did. Right after the announcement I picked up complete NM pre-unity runs of Harbinger for $75, Solar for $50, XO for $50 and extra copies of Solar #10 for a couple of bucks each. You can't find those sort of deals now (at least where I look). Or you could buy the entire run from me here plus get bonuses: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-Pre-Unity-Valiant-comic-run-duplicates-of-keys-Harbinger-1-bonuses-/261980785977?hash=item3cff458d39 Nice plug and it would probably sell with some scans. Good price, and it proves my earlier point. I spent approximately half your BIN price when I purchased mine and it was more complete.

  13. I wouldn't worry, Justin. When you consider how much time was spent in season 1 to develop the various mobs, especially the Russians, it showed that their ability to multitask character development is a strength. I would be worried if they didn't have a large ensemble of new characters. Ulrich's gone, so is the owl, the remaining mobs will probably amount to little more than Punisher fodder, and the central characters have already been established and introduced. That leaves a lot of hours to fill. With Matt now in the suit, there's bound to be a natural progression to adding the "super" in the villains he faces. This will not be Spider-Man 3.
  14. I want to thank everyone who positively contributed in the different Valiant threads recently, especially Valiantman. I loved Valiant growing up, still do, and I've long neglected putting together a collection. When the TV/Movie news hit, the info that was provided here allowed me to quick build an entire Pre-Unity+ collection on the cheap. Thank you!
  15. Found a copy of #2 with an MJ insert. That gives us MJ inserts in #2, 4 & 5.
  16. Nice slab haul! I know you singled out #48 as a bad cover, but IMO #45 takes the cake. The anatomy on that horse is so
  17. "I want Spanish Darkhawks for my birthday" said only one person ever. They are great though and thanks for sharing!
  18. The worst thing I've personally experienced in a sales thread is where one of our more popular flippers ninja edited their "I'll take it" so they ensured that they got the book to flip. We posted our "take it's" within seconds of each other. They originally posted some garbage like "take op1". A spelling mistake as it didn't apply to any offered book, but enough of a mistake where I should have gotten the book. Instead, they ninja edited their "take it" after presumably seeing my "take it" so theirs would correctly corresponded to the book offered. If you can't take the time to spell the title correctly, your "take it" should be invalid and the next in line gets it. They'll be more books to flip and you just alienated a boardie from ever wanting to buy from you again.
  19. I'm fine with boardies flipping books bought here with a few exceptions. Insta-flipping books bought on the boards to sell on the boards is lame. Wait more than a week, if you're in a hurry go to a different venue. Dominating a popular sales thread for resale here is also lame. I'm talking the f5 fests where numerous people, many for their own collections, are trying to take books. Have a little restraint and let a few others get a good deal.
  20. Or a properly packed rigid mailer. If it can be bent it will be bent. (thumbs u
  21. A little bit younger than pictured here. The acting chops, the physique and the look.
  22. @fmaz You handled yourself in an extremely professional manner throughout that exchange. You kept your cool despite his lack of professionalism. Kudos. I believe, and I'm sure it will be a majority viewpoint, that you cannot send valuable comics in a mailer with little protection. I've received comics shipped to me in the same mailer you use and they have incurred damage. For a book of this price, you should be using a box 100% of the time.
  23. I just ordered a HP 7410 from ebay thanks to the advice in this thread. I will post my progress after I receive it in the mail and have had time to experiment. Are there free alternatives to Vuescan that others would recommend?
  24. They're both great. I like the #63 more myself.
