  1. I love how something that has been optioned for a movie equals "NEW MOVIE COMING OUT" on eBay. The Sixth Gun, anyone? -slym Don't be a cynic. All these movies are getting made.
  2. There should be SS of almost every issue available just before the awards. You're welcome. You getting some books defaced in Calgary?
  3. In a year or so we can try to expand out and see if these store variants help or hinder books. Right now I am not sure whether it does or not. My opinion only, but I think we'll see these fall off as people tire of them, and it becomes less worthwhile for stores to commission them. On the flip side, they are a boon for the creators, as they increase print run.
  4. Yes. It's a great book, with good art and a unique premise. Quality wise, it deserves the attention.
  5. 'You can get a nice T-Bone by sticking your head up a butcher's ...'
  6. Why would speculators buy in quantity of the #5 issue? why did they do it with panzerfaust? I'm not sure a conclusion can be drawn, yet. LCS's response to issues selling out is to bump their orders, and there are 4s and 5s on the racks in my area. I'm still in the camp that this book has become the pie in the spec's eyes, but I don't think they are buying 5 in big numbers. Guys may be buying an extra copy or two to match up with sets, though. We'll see how it goes at the spring shows. I knew Saga, MP, and ToT were drawing in readers when the earlier issues were being asked for and sold to run builders.
  7. He's generalizing. The numbers ARE down, but there are still readers. In fact, there's probably been a slight upswing in readers with all the movie and TV exposure. There's a core of female readers that I don't think existed ten years ago. This being the CGC forum, though, there's probably some skew towards graded book collectors. He's not talking about modern sales or comic readers in general. He's talking about people who don't seem to have a clue about the interior content of comics they're buying, especially in slabs. That was the point I was trying to get at - I prefer your translation.
  8. The problem is that people don't read comics anymore, and they just look at what's on the CGC label. And on that note, what is on the CGC label? The major point I would concentrate on is the first cover appearance, combined with the first full appearance in 362. People like covers, as they look kewl in their plastic tombs. How do you know people don't read comics anymore? He's generalizing. The numbers ARE down, but there are still readers. 9. I'm betting you don't have a girlfriend. I don't. My wife says I'm not allowed.
  10. Philly? We never get anything here You got Sproles. And Sanchez! We have Giroux! That's what matters (thumbs u Couple more years, you'll love B Schenn.
  11. If more people thought like you, these examples of the 'truth' would be more sought after. They don't, and so they are not.
  12. I would hold at least till a TV show hits air. Considering how many comics have been optioned for TV and movies, I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of them never make it. Sometimes it's good to sell during the initial rush, since a lot of these books won't make it to TV. Then you're stuck with it. Yup, and statistically, if you sell on news of every optioned project, you will come out ahead.
  13. So then you do agree that from 1984-up newsstand copies ARE rarer than their direct market counterparts? I hope that just about anyone can see that the above is pure conjecture. RMA hasn't cited a single fact which supports these conclusions. In fact, he even deleted his "supposition" disclaimer in the original post. The supposition disclaimer is still there. The numbers may not be exact, but the concept and trend that's being illustrated is dead on. That is, the idea that DM buying took over from newsstand buying, and the supply of books reflects this.
  14. Nope! But some of my fondest memories are getting smashed at pubs with a group of Newfies I met in PEI. From what I remember, It was a pretty awesome trip! Also, I play pool WAY better drunk. Why do you ask good sir? The Newfies I play hockey with often used 'buddy' as a pronoun, like you did. As in, 'did you see buddy do that?'.
  15. I give anyone credit if they are making $6000 a year off moderns, heck yeah that would be nice. I just see an eerily similarity between this new breed of speculation compared to the dark days of the 90's. Of course the print runs are way different, but the buy every book in multiples regardless of content is in place. Lots of people do much more than $6000 a year from moderns. This is from my summary page on Ebay. Do you hit the Paypal reporting threshold, in terms of taxes? Does that become an issue? I have since they have been reporting. After you factor in ebay/paypal, fees, postage fees, cgc grading fees. The cost of doing business is offset quite a bit. But it's still some nice extra money to supply my silly Thanos cravings I was just wondering if you had a strategy for backing off near the end of the year to stay under the magic number. Are you married? Is it feasible to have a spouse doing some of the selling, from an accounting perspective?

  17. Gotta listen to ELO's 'Showdown' while reading.
  18. Sure crazyman, you just let me know when you find any verifiable FACTS 100% linking the CGC Forums to the rapid price jump in a given issue. We do have the Hulk 377 3rd print as an example, with a price run up after discussion here. Your challenge, and what qualifies as facts, is pretty nebulous, though. Observation of timing and correlations is probably the best you'll get. Perhaps you'll offer some "FACTS" to refute the Hulk 377 price escalation, though. Can you offer any facts that support we were the only ones discussing or thinking about this? Thought not. I suppose Foom #2 was all our doing too? You don't need to bust your brain box thinking, when I flat out told you above that observations of timing and correlations are the best you'd get. I don't doubt for a minute that this site generates ideas that ultimately shift the market, though. The Internet facilitates the spread of ideas pretty quickly, from site to site, and this impacts buying and bidding patterns. As an example of what this site can do, look at the Bill Sienkiewicz commission that ended up looking like a . Discussion and outrage here led to bigger publicity, which led to amends on BS's part. Granted, it's not an example of a price effect, but it does illustrate the fact that this site is followed, and has influence. I don't disagree entirely, just not as fervently as RMA's supposition. I suspect face to face, and over a couple of beer, we even agree to extent. Other sites drive the market as well, especially Bleeding Cool with new releases, but this site does turn up and drive interest in a lot of items.
  19. Sorry, but that's not the way it works Stumpy. You call the tune, you pay the piper. I didn't call the tune, but I'll dance a couple of steps. Here's a fact: RMA discussed Hulk 377 3rd print here. Here's another: after this happened, copies began appearing on eBay and selling for escalating prices. I didn't see this book mentioned, or discussed, or debated on the other chat boards or news sites I frequent. It's also not the only example of things discussed here that have disseminated throughout the hobby, as already discussed. And, finally, aren't you the guy who offers blanket dismissal of modern comics without actually reading any, Freeman? And now you want facts???
