  1. Sure crazyman, you just let me know when you find any verifiable FACTS 100% linking the CGC Forums to the rapid price jump in a given issue. We do have the Hulk 377 3rd print as an example, with a price run up after discussion here. Your challenge, and what qualifies as facts, is pretty nebulous, though. Observation of timing and correlations is probably the best you'll get. Perhaps you'll offer some "FACTS" to refute the Hulk 377 price escalation, though. Can you offer any facts that support we were the only ones discussing or thinking about this? Thought not. I suppose Foom #2 was all our doing too? You don't need to bust your brain box thinking, when I flat out told you above that observations of timing and correlations are the best you'd get. I don't doubt for a minute that this site generates ideas that ultimately shift the market, though. The Internet facilitates the spread of ideas pretty quickly, from site to site, and this impacts buying and bidding patterns. As an example of what this site can do, look at the Bill Sienkiewicz commission that ended up looking like a . Discussion and outrage here led to bigger publicity, which led to amends on BS's part. Granted, it's not an example of a price effect, but it does illustrate the fact that this site is followed, and has influence.

  4. I am one of the 'troupe' who agrees with taking a measured approach to some of the price run-ups we've seen over the past year. For the record, though, I don't think anyone in this thread has been pumping the book for personal gain. In fact, outside of a couple of stark examples on the boards, we've been reasonably free of this. I also don't think the people who have suggested prices may have bubbled on book X are sour because they've missed said book.
  5. This. NWM mentioned above isn't a great example, but ToT is. It's STILL too early to anoint this a one way trend.
  6. And as we all know, "first full appearance" means not the first appearance. -slym Back up the truck on issue 3.
  7. I ran a newsstand for 3 years, and we never got our issues 2-3 weeks later. This was early to mid 1990s. I even remember getting the Superman #75 newsstand edition and selling a couple for $100 or so they day after they came out. -slym From 1990-1993, I picked up several hot books (from Superman #50, Robin #1, to Bats #492, Tec #659) from the newsstand, because they arrived weeks...not days, but weeks...afterwards. I haunted the newsstands. Don't know what to tell you. Probably yet another distribution quirk of the era. It was the same here. The two week gap between LCS and newsstand distribution allowed for an opportunity to load up on books you already saw were hot.
  8. Or we are tired of almost every book getting a show. Show me a cast or something. Yup. Target confusion. EVERY unique idea in the industry gets optioned. Give us the goods.
  9. Can you point me in the direction of Saga 1 9.8's for $130, please? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAGA-1-1ST-PRINT-2012-IMAGE-PGX-NM-MT-9-8-BRIAN-VAUGHAN-FIONA-STAPLES-NR-/310808508682?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item485da1790a&nma=true&si=D7qDNwO1%252FITUKd4WGyBMRB6wE80%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  10. That's a YMMV type of proposition. The thrill of the treasure hunt has a variable value.
  11. This book is essentially a mega key in the Batman mythos. Some day I will write up a lengthy post about how important this book is. It also isn't hurting it any that is the origin of Deathstroke. Finally the black cover does make it tougher than average to find in very high grade compared to many other CA books. (Only 50 or so new 9.8 have popped up on the census since it became a hot book mid 2013.) The entire Judas Contract story arc makes it all come together. All four of those books should be on a "must read" list.
  12. I was about to say the same thing, very good point. I wish Fiona would do c2e2 so I could get Lying Cat sketched on something She'll be at the REAL c2e2 in Calgary this spring. Lucky you, wish I could go. BKV is pretty elusive though Ah, don't worry. Wish I could go to the Chicago shows. There always seems to be some prior engagement, though.

  14. Speaking of Alias heating up . . . . linky-dink That's a good read. Nice sale, rabnuD. (thumbs u
  15. Damn those speculators creating false demand!! You, of course, will admit when you are wrong?
  16. I'm like jaybes on this one. I think its both. With that said, the story is very good and so is the art. I can't wait to read #4. This book along with a lot of recent Image stuff is top notch and I would have been more surprised if there wasn't high demand on the secondary market. Don't be. This board is very astute at unearthing and spotlighting great new series, but the general market doesn't seem to be so. If it were, we'd still be getting monthly Think Tank.
  17. I didn't take it that way Slym,I think 500club was just calling out the jab, that's all. it's all just fun banter to me,way better than watching tv (ie Agents of Spoon ) It's more entertaining when we all have opinions right? I think we can all agree that we want to see MD be successful, no matter what. That's what matters! Yeah, no hyperbole intended, and I was actually figuring I'd missed your point.
  18. I think that most of the posters here would offer that it's never only speculation that drives these books. Usually the trigger is quality, which starts the cycle. What suggests speculation is sudden spikes in price, especially early in a book's life. That's not consistent with accumulation of readership, which usually happens over a longer term. My opinion is that this is mostly speculation, but, as with all my opinions, I may well be wrong. I'm used to arguing stock market positions, where being proven wrong, or just flat out pantsed, is par for the course, even with a well thought out thesis.
